The Mount Pleasant Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892. The club met at the home of Dr. John W. Saginaw, who had a rifle range on his property in Mount Pleasant. In 1902, the club moved to its current location on Main Street in Mount Pleasant. In 1911, the club hosted the first national gun show in Michigan. The event was held at the old Masonic Temple on Grand River Avenue in Mt Pleasant. In 1916, the club sponsored a golf tournament that attracted some of Michigan's top golfer talent including Herman Stroud and Harry Vardon.

The racial makeup of Mountpleasant was 96% White, 0% African American, 0% Native American, 2% Asian, 0% Pacific Islander, and 1% from two or more races. Mount Pleasant is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the border of Clinton and Calhoun counties. The population was 592 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is known for its apple orchards, which are among the largest in the United States. The first settler in what would become Mount Pleasant was John Worth, who arrived around 1800. Worth built a cabin on what is now State Road 2 near present-day Mount Pleasant Lake. In 1825, Wm Hays established a sawmill and farm west of Mount Pleasant along present-day M-14. By 1830, there were three buildings in Mountpleasant – a Methodist church (1830), an inn (1831), and an grist mill (1832). In 1836, entrepreneur Levi Coffin purchased 3 acres of land east of present day Mount Pleasant from Wm Hays for $500 cash and began to build a brick house that became known as "Coffin's House." In 1840, he married Rachel McCoy and started calling his home "Mount Pleasant." The first post office was established here in 1841 by Samuel Prentiss with the name "Clinton". In 1847, Anthony Sampson bought 1/4 mile south of what would become downtown Mountpleasant from Levi Coffin for $800 cash; this location became known as Sampson's Hill after him. A sawmill operated by John Daugherty on Daugherty Creek near Sampson's Hill produced logs until 1906 when it burned down due to arsonism. One notable event during this time period took place when General George Armstrong Custer marched through town on his way to battle against Native Americans at Little Big Horn on July 10th, 1876; many inhabitants came out to greet him personally before he left town later that day. Mount Pleasant experienced some increased growth following Custer's visit however it slowly declined over time due largely to agricultural problems such as lack of available water resources and high prices for lumber brought about by industry growth elsewhere in Michigan concurrent with increasing immigration into the area caused by cheap labor opportunities abroad throughout the late 19th century not easily accessible within typical American towns like Mount pleasant.– Source: http://www2a1a5d3f3c8bacdd5e9ea007bf51ed6df/. There is much Mount Pleasant history to be written, but some of the most important events include: The first settler in Mount Pleasant was John Lewis who arrived in 1810. In 1814, a group of Lutherans established a small chapel on the bluff overlooking town. The community grew around this chapel until it had over 100 residents by 1822. Mount Pleasant's first school was built in 1824 and classes began with only 7 students. In 1830, the town voted to dissolve and form a new township named after Samuel Morse, which became the present day Mount Pleasant Township. A post office was established at Mount Pleasant in 1830 and soon became one of the most popular in Michigan because it allowed for mail delivery from anywhere within the state. During World War II, many people worked at various local factories helping create munitions needed for America's war effort. After the war ended, many people left Mountpleasant to start their own farms or businesses outside of town. Mount Pleasant has experienced some major changes throughout its history including becoming an incorporated city in 1932; being annexed by Detroit during 1967; experiencing a growth spurt during the late 1990s due to new development along nearby I-75; and becoming part of Mackinac Island during 2006 as part of Pontiac Township
