Mount Pleasant is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located about 20 miles northwest of Detroit on the Rouge River. As of 2010, the population was 3,022. The Mount Pleasant train station is the terminus for Amtrak's Michigan Central Railroad line, which provides a cross-country passenger service between Detroit and Chicago.[1] The Mount Pleasant community was laid out around 1833 by John Potter, who named it after his home town of Milton in Massachusetts. Potter's nephews began developing the land in 1847 and built what became known as the Green Street School District on what is now Main Street. The first post office was established in 1850 and Mount Pleasant incorporated as a village in 1852. By 1860, however, property values had increased so much that the village voted to secede from Dodge County and form its own government under a one-house per hundred citizens plan called "the Township Plan".[2][3] In 1870, when Dodge County merged with Wayne County to become Michigan Territory,[4] Mount Pleasant remained an unincorporated community within Wayne County until it was annexed by detroit in 1908.[5][6] The early years of World War II were difficult for Mount Pleasant because most people worked outside the village or outside of Wayne County. However, things changed during World War II when many people came back to work inside Village limits and villages like Mountpleasant started making money off their services such as grocery stores and hotels. Today there are few businesses left that do not rely on tourism or Interstate transportations like Amtrak or planes to bring visitors into town

Mount Pleasant is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located about southeast of Lansing and about west of Muskegon Heights. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is part of the Muskegon Heights Rural School District. The first permanent settlement in what is now Mount Pleasant was made on the east side of the White River by French traders in 1701 as Sault Ste Marie de l'Eau (later Sault Ste Marie) Landing Site No. 1. It was later called Fox Point, after Sir George Fox's landing party on September 8, 1701 near present-day Detroit, which established British sovereignty over what are now Ontario and Michigan Territory. In 1835, John Fenton purchased land northwest of Mount Pleasant from David Coleman Young for $1 million dollars ($ today). Fenton renamed his new community "Mount Pleasant" in honor of General Andrew Jackson who had fought in the Mexican–American War and won fame as a general during that conflict at nearby Battle of Buena Vista Creek before being elected President in 1860. A post office called "Fox Point" was established at Mountpleasant in 1836; it changed its name to "Mount Pleasant" two years later due to opposition from local residents who felt they had been given an preferential treatment by government officials when their earlier name had been chosen for a community situated closer to Lansing. When James Kiefer built a sawmill on the White River north of present-day Mount Pleasant around 1840, he laid out a village named after himself - Kieferville - which grew rapidly into a small city with over 10,000 people by 1855 thanks to his timber operations and other businesses conducted there including retail stores and hotels located along main streets such as State Street and Maple Road NW like those still extant today lining Main Street between Courtland Way NW and Woodward Avenue NE
The first white settlers in Mount Pleasant came from nearby Detroit in the mid-19th century. The town was named for General David Potter, who fought against Native Americans in the area. In 1855, Mount Pleasant became a part of Michigan and was renamed Cadillac. In 1898, Mount Pleasant was incorporated as a village.
