Mount Pleasant is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,719 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Mount Pleasant was Antoine Bouchard in 1824; he named it after his home on Montreal Island in Canada. In 1827, John Chouteau settled here with his family and started a gristmill that still operates today. In 1840, Territorial Governor James Wirth established a small post office in Mount Pleasant and named it for General Robert Lucas (1786-1835), an American Revolutionary War veteran who had served as Commandant of the 1st Infantry Regiment Michigan Volunteers from 1799 to 1800 and then as Colonel of that regiment from 1800 to 1802 under US President George Washington. Wirth's post office continued until January 8, 1850 when it was replaced by the present one at Main Street and Water Street. In 1847, three brothers—Hugh, Augustus and Solomon—founded the Masonic Lodge No. 598F in Mount Pleasant with seven members which operated until 1865 when it merged into another lodge, No. 598C which continues to operate today as "The Lodge". Hugh Chouteau also founded what is now Arbor View Place adjacent to Main Street which became a popular shopping center during its early years with stores such as Sears & Roebuck, JCPenney and Montgomery Ward being among its earliest customers before becoming defunct over time). On March 15th 1861, Fort Michilimackinac became operational within Michigan Territory due to an agreement between US President Abraham Lincoln and Chief Miamisheket Tecumseh Sherman whereby nine United States military posts would be established along Detroit River within Michigan Territory including Fort Michilimackinac which became known as “The Arsenal” after its location on Cadillac Avenue near what is now Gratiot Avenue (later renamed Big Road). On April 7th 1861 – just days after Fort Michilimackinac opened – Mount Pleasant residents voted 23-2 in favor of annexing their community into Detroit Township through an ordinance passed by township trustees John Coyle (R) and Timothy Garton (D). This event marked the first time that municipalities east of Detroit had been annexed into their respective townships although this process would continue throughout much ofMichigan during the Civil War due to lack of local support for secession fromthe Union

The town of Mount Pleasant, Michigan was founded in 1837 by a group of farmers led by Captain John Clark. The community quickly grew and became a popular stopping point for travelers on the Great Lakes. By 1845, the town had a school and post office. In 1861, Mount Pleasant was incorporated as a village and soon developed into a busy commercial center with businesses such as Grange Hall Barber Shop, United States Post Office, and Albion Cotton Mills. Mount Pleasant struggled during World War I due to its small population and lack of resources. However, the town bounced back during World War II thanks to its support of the military and its role as an airfields for the war effort. After the war ended, Mount Pleasant slowly lost its importance but still retains some historic buildings including GrANGE HALL BARBER SHOP which is now used as a museum.

Mount Pleasant is located on the eastern edge of Detroit's city limits. The first permanent settler in what would become Mount Pleasant was Nicholas Zieger, who arrived in 1801 from Bohemia. He named his land "Mount Pleasant." In 1807, German immigrant Johann Friedrich Stahel established a sawmill on the east side ofriver just south of present-day Mount Pleasant Township. Stahel also built a grist mill onsoutheast corner of River Road and Washington Avenue about two miles northeast of present-day Mount Pleasant Township. The first post office in Mount Pleasant was established on April 15, 1808, by Nicholas Ziegler with the name "Beaver Dam." In 1827, John Ladd bought 640 acres (2 km²) adjacent topresent-day Mount Pleasant Township from Stahel and erected a large stone house called "Ladd's Palace" as his home and office for many years. In 1830, he donated another 400 acres (1 km²) to form what becameMount Clemens Cemetery today (). Ladd also gracedmany public occasions including several speeches before Congress while still living at his palace overlooking downtown Detroit (). In 1861 when Michigan became an independent country after Confederation, Mountpleasant had 5 families as its only residents; however by 1865 there were over 50 residents including 10 white men and 8 black men with various businesses operating hereabouts (). When federal troops burned down Ladd's Palace in 1863 during their occupation (), most all remaining inhabitants fled or were driven out by Union troops occupyingthe area until 1865 when they withdrew completely (). By 1870 there were only 1 black resident left (), one working for local farmers () The last white Resident died in 1975 leaving no descendants behind .
