In 1907, a gunsmith named Johnnie Gregg patented a design for an automatic firearm that would later be called the Colt revolver. This gun was wildly successful and helped make Mount Pleasant a center of firearms production.
Mount Pleasant is a small town in the United States, located in Clinton County. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights, Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Mount Pleasant was Samuel Morse, who built a log cabin on the now-swollen creek in 1795. In 1812, John A. Macomb founded the village of Muskegon Heights on land that he had bought from George Washington and his troops during the War for Independence. In 1826, Augustus Kelley bought 202 acres (0.8 km²) of land north of Muskegon Heights and laid out what is today Mount Pleasant into two squares: east side was called "Market Square" while west side was called "Mount Pleasant". In 1835, General Andrew Jackson set up an artillery battery here to defend against Native American attack. After their victorious battle at Washita Ridge in October 1836, Jackson ordered all cannon batteries stationed along the Great Lakes to be disbanded and moved to Fort Wayne so they could be used against Indian targets farther away from towns and villages like Muskegon Heights. However, some cannons were kept here and converted into a military museum today known as Eastern Michigan University’s cannon collection (itself part of Eastern Michigan University's downtown campus). In 1881, when belt buckle manufacturer John Dennison opened his mill on White Marsh Creek about northwest of present-day Mount Pleasant Village Hall, he named it after his hometown – Mount Vernon – but only gave it toMuskegon Heights because there wasn't enough space for both communities within Muskegon Township.. By 1890 much of muskegon township had been annexed by Clinton County; however, many residents still chose to live within their own municipality despite this change in government policy. One such resident was Mrs.(Edith) Mapes who resided adjacent to her husband’s store which sat on what is now East Market Street between current day US 26th Avenue (Old alignment) and Market Square Place - also known as "Mapes Road" before annexation - until her death in 1951 when it became State Route 10W aka Main Street between US 26th Ave./US 27th Ave./US 28th Ave./and Old alignment US 26th/27th Avenues/and then MLK Blvd...still known locally as “Mapes Road” Today East Market St & MLK Blvd are both included inside city limits

Mount Pleasant is a small town in the heart of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was once a thriving fur-trading and farming community, but has since fallen into decline. The town's history can be traced back to 1811 when it was founded by Nicholas Dodge and his family. Mount Pleasant quickly became a prosperous trading post, and during its heyday, it boasted an sizable population of over 500 people. However, by the early 20th century, Mount Pleasant had lost most of its economic viability as a consequence of dwindling trade and competition from other nearby towns. Today, the town remains little more than a ghost town with only a few scattered houses still standing. The origins of Mount Pleasant can be traced back to 1811 when Nicholas Dodge and his family established themselves in what is now Mount Pleasant Township. The Dodge family were originally from Ohio, but they moved to Lower Michigan in 1814 to help establish what would become the township. In addition to their role as traders and farmers, the Dodge brothers also developed an extensive fur-trading business that played an important role in determining Mountpleasant's current status as a smalltown. By 1819, Nicholas Dodge had purchased 8 acres within present-day Mount Pleasant Township for $200USD – this land would later become one of the largest tracts of land in the community. By 1850, however,Nicholas Dodge had passed away without any children remaining on his estate; this left his property divided among many others who desired it for different reasons including lumber or agricultural purposes. In 1861 John Fenton bought 5 acres within present-day Mount Pleasant Township for $25USD – this parcel would later become one of the largest tracts of land in town). In 1865 Nathan Senter acquired 1/4 acre within present-day Mountpleasant Township for $5USD – this parcel would later become another large tract of land in town). Finally in 1870 Abram Bache sold 3/8 acre within present-dayMountpleasant Township for $10USD – this parcel would eventually become one of the largest tracts of land in town). mount pleasant | map
On the banks of the Muskegon River, Mount Pleasant was founded in 1824 by Methodist missionaries. The town was named after General John C. Pemberton, who helped lead the American War of 1812 and served as a U.S. senator from Michigan. In 1825, Mount Pleasant became the first town in Michigan to be chartered as a village. In 1827, it became a full-fledged city when it annexed the neighboring town of Holland. In 1830, Mount Pleasant became part of the newly formed State of Michigan and its first mayor was James successor Macomb. In 1834, Mount Pleasant's first school opened with only eight students and taught Kindergarten through Eighth Grade; however, by 1840 there were twenty-six students attending school in Mountpleasant proper while also serving as teachers at other schools within the city limits. The first public library was built in Mountpleasant in 1865 and is still used today as an important resource for residents and visitors alike.
