Mount Pleasant is a small town in the lower Peninsula of Michigan. It lies on the right bank of the main Detroit River, about 20 miles south of downtown Detroit. As of the 2010 census, its population was 3,859. The first permanent settler in what is now Mount Pleasant was Alexander Wilson, who arrived in 1796. The community grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its natural resources and easy access to markets in nearby Detroit. By 1828, Mount Pleasant had a population of 2,500 people and it became an incorporated village under the name "Mt Pleasant." In 1836, part of Mount Pleasant was designated as a county seat for Wayne County; this change also excluded most of eastern Wayne County from participation in Municipal Court proceedings until after 1880. During World War II, many residents supplied food and materials to their local military units stationed at various bases throughout Michigan and beyond. In 1951, Mtpleasant became home to one of two cultural centers for African Americans within Michigan – The Jackson Center for Black Culture (later renamed The Jackson Institute) opened here on Elmira Road. Since then, other cultural organizations have moved into or been created near Mtpleasant including: The Renaissance Group Museum on Washtenaw Avenue; Lansing's Black History Museum on State Street; and Lakeview Terrace Community Church on nearby White Marsh Boulevard. Today Mount Pleasant remains a vibrant community with strong ties to its history and culture – both immediate neighbors and those living far away!

Mount Pleasant is a small town in the US state of Michigan, located on the east bank of the Penobscot River. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is part of the Muskegon Heights Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first white settlement in what would become Mount Pleasant was established by Alexander McNaught and others in 1798. The community was named for General Anthony Wayne's home at Mount Pleasant Manor, now known as Dearborn Heights. In 1837, General John Custer led his brigade of Indian warriors against Fort Dearborn and its defenders numbering over 1,500 men under Colonel Augustus De Witt Smith. The battle resulted in a devastating defeat for the Indian forces and left many dead on both sides with more than 5 miles (8 km) of open ground between fortifications and where troops had been positioned to provide cover for their commanders. After the battle, Custer ordered his troops to retire upriver to Wabasha agency while he pursued his retreating Indians into Illinois Territory. A detachment of Ulysses S Grant's army arrived at Fort Donelson after reaching civilization late that night and besieged or captured nearby Fort Dearborn from July 27 until August 2, 1837 before withdrawn following harsh criticism from Secretary of War James K. Polk who felt that Grant should have gone further inland into Illinois Territory instead of retiring downriver
Mt. Pleasant was a small mountain in the town of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, about 3 miles northwest of downtown. The mountain was first surveyed in 1836 by Captain Lewis Cass and named for General John Montresor, who had served in the War of 1812. In 1865, the town built a small fort on the summit to prevent Indians from raiding nearby settlements. The fort was abandoned in 1867 and is now a museum.
