In 1815, Captain John Fritchey donated another piece of land for an arsenal which would include two larger cannons and four smaller cannons. In 1816, Major General Isaac Brock purchased the Arsenal from Captain John Fritchey for $1,500 dollars. In 1850, Drury & Taylor erected a cotton gin on the east side of Route 9 near where present-day Armstrong Road meets Route 9 West. This gin became known as “the Arsenal” due to its importance in cotton production during that time period. From 1850-1890s local mills produced about two million pounds of cotton each month at “the Arsenal” using 100 slaves who worked eight hours per day/six days per week under very difficult working conditions inside this huge mill complex

The name Mount Pleasant comes from two words: "mount" and "pleasant." In 1804, John Fenton named his farm Mount Pleasant after his wife's family home in Norfolk County, Virginia. In 1821, George Washington Dixon donated land to the village for its plat and he laid out a road that would lead to it from Shiawassee Township on Huron River. When it was platted in 1825 by James Davenport and others as part of Townships One (later township Two) and Three (later sanilac), Mount Pleasant had an area of . By 1860, it had grown to an area of . A post office called Mount Pleasant was established in 1827; it closed new mail operations on July 1, 1937. When statehood was granted to Michigan in 1837, all townships were placed within Sanilac County so that they could be counted among the newly created counties. However, because Mount Pleasant had been detached from Sanilac County when it became a municipality in 1840under state law governing municipalities not exceeding one thousand inhabitants—a decision made without consulting with the other municipalities composing Sanilac County—it remained unincorporated until its incorporation into Grand Rapids–Wixom-Holland as a municipality on November 3rd 1909 under state statute No. 906(3). It is now considered one of four villages located within metropolitan Grand Rapids–Wixom-Holland: 3505 Third Street NW; 3636 Main Street NW; 4441 Second Avenue SE; and 4701 Indiana Avenue SE

The community was named for John Quincy Adams, 1st President of the United States and a native of Quincy, Massachusetts The first settlers in what would become Mount Pleasant were farmers who arrived around 1800. By 1815, there were about fifty residents living in a small village on the banks of the Kawkawa River. The village grew to include two storehouses and ten homes near where present-day Mount Pleasant stands today. In 1822, Aaron Burr leased part of land northeast of present-day Mount Pleasant from James Caldwell for twenty years and named it Burrtown after his father General Alexander Hamilton's favorite Senator from New York City. In 1827, following economic success with his iron works at Port Huron, Andrew Jackson became president and Agricultural Commissioner of Michigan. He ordered local officials to investigate rumors that he had engaged in sexual relationships with women during his campaign for office Jackson also designated Mount Pleasant as one of four sites for an agricultural experiment station known as "Green Point." Located about three miles (4 km) northeast of town on high ground overlooking Lake Superior, Green Point served as an early model for modern research stations operated by USDA programs such as ARPRAIL and CABRISCO In 1830, when Jackson was reelected president with more than 60 percent support from rural Midwesterners angry over tariffs he had introduced into Congress during his first term – including measures raising duties on goods imported into America – he announced his intention to travel downriver to Duluth and Sturgis to learn more about Minnesota agriculture before returning south In May 1830 he boarded a steamboat called "SS Maine" anchored at Vincennes Bayou just upstream from Green Point while others moored their boats nearby prepared to leave for Duluth aboard other vessels; only seven men set out instead because they did not have tickets and were not allowed ashore without credentials or an escort After disembarking in Buffalo Bayou near present-day Ionia Landing on June 8th they continued their journey upriver using wagon roads through Illinois until reaching Fort Dearborn on July 5th where they stopped for supplies ahead of their return trip downstream They reached Detroit again on July 27th but did not report back until August 2nd due to bad weather; this delay cost them $1 million dollars which could have been used towards repairs or new equipment . Upon their return trip they found that much has changed since then: prices for materials had increased 40%, navigation improved by 50% due to better charts available since then– making it possible today explore most any place within 100 miles (160 km) . They also discovered new lumbering areas along the riverine plain between Flint Hills National Park eastward and Sault Ste Marie Provincial Park westward; these woods would provide much needed lumber necessary both domestically and export markets throughout much OF THE 20TH CENTURY
