Mount Pleasant is a small town in the Canadian province of Ontario. The population was 1,890 as of the 2016 census. During World War II, Mount Pleasant served as an airfield for Air Canada troop training flights over Lake Simcoe which often included fighter pilots from other Canadian provinces such as Newfoundland and Labrador who would then fly down into Canada for battle against American forces during Operation Overlord. In 1967, when Highway 401 was created following construction along its current route, parts of Burlington Township including Mountpleasant were annexed into that highway while others such as Maple Leaf Gardens (the original site of Toronto's Maple Leafs hockey team) were left untouched until today when they are now part of University Avenue east of Highway 401 between Highway 7 and Huron Street). However, after the bridge was destroyed in 1868, the village shifted its location to what is now its downtown core. Along with other villages along the Mackinac River during this time period, Mount Pleasant struggled through various hard times due to low population density and limited access to natural resources. In recent years however, growth has slowly begun to slow and purchases of land within the community have become more common. In spite of these challenges however, Mount Pleasant remains an important part of Macomb County history and culture. The community has significant ties to both Macomb County itself and Detroit – both cities are nearly 20 miles away – making it an ideal place for tourists or locals who want to visit either city but don't want to leave their home base. Additionally, many local businesses still operate from within Mountpleasant Village; this makes it a great spot for walks around town or visits during special events like food festivals or antique shows. The origins of Mount Pleasant remain relatively unknown; most likely it was named after one of John Toombs' brothers or nephews who lived in nearby Lapeer County at that time (the Toombses had come from North Carolina). However whatever its name may be, today's Mount Pleasant is one of America's oldest remaining rural villages and one which retains some key features from its early days: a small central square with a post office (which still operates), a blacksmith shop/grinder store/bus stop (still open today), two churches (one Dutch-owned and one American-owned), schoolhouse #2 (now used as an Apartments complex), two grocery stores (oneDutch-owned and one American-owned), three residences - including presidentially owned White House apartments - as well as several shops and services inside the central square throughout different seasons - all while retaining much of its originalvillage character!
