Monroe, Michigan has a rich history of firearm ownership and shooting. The city was founded in 1837 by General Simon Cameron as the County Seat of Washtenaw County. In 1865, Monroe became a city and it has since grown to be one of the most populous cities in Michigan with over 176,000 residents. Monroe is also home to the largest indoor range in Michigan and one of the oldest outdoor ranges in the United States. The first firearm usage in Monroe occurs from 1837 when General Simon Cameron established Washtenaw County as its county seat. A rifle known as an “Old Orchard Rifle” was used for hunting small game such as rabbits and squirrels up until about 1840. It is thought that this rifle was made by Samuel Colt from an old English musket dating back to 1688. From 1840-1860, guns were only used for target practice at military arsenals located throughout the county which included Fort Harrison on Mackinac Island and Fort Dearborn on Detroit River. There are records of several engagements between American troops and Native Americans during this time period including the Battle of Iuka Creek which took place on April 12th, 1846; however, no record exists of any gunshot being fired in what is now Monroe Township date back to this time period! In 1865, Monroe became a city under four different names before becoming its current name – City of Industry (1868), City of Commerce (1875), City of Wayne (1902), and finally City Of Monroe (1966). The roots for today’s firearms industry can be traced back to early America where pioneers brought their own firearms into what is now Michigan via boats along Lake Superior or across country Via wagon trains transporting goods like lumber and tinned goods from Canada down through Minnesota/Wisconsin territory then eastward into Ohio before arriving in southern Michigan near Grand Rapids area where they unloaded their merchandise onto barges called “Canoes” or “Paddle Boats” before continuing inland across Lake Huron all the way upriver to Sault Ste Marie prior dropping anchor at Two Rivers Landing whereupon goods could be unloaded onto riverboats called “Lighters” before being transported downriver again all the way to Muskegon Heights near Orion Shores just outside present day Muskegon Heights Township which served as both a loading dock for these vessels as well as a location for passengers disembarking from these vessels while on their journey downstream towards Saginaw Bayou opposite Port Huron Peninsula! Since township incorporation dates back to 1834 there have been many changes taking place within our municipality including annexations/incorporations/reorganizations resulting in various numbers OF businesses/ residences within our borders! currently we stand at 27th Ward having annexed five other municipalities namely: Hollandale(1973), Washington(1977), Metro Detroit Heights(1981), Midland Park(1983) & South Lyon(1987)! Our municipality population stands at over 66K residents making us one of the most populous cities with over 176K residents living within our boundaries! One significant reason why firearms have been so important within our community are due to various accidents that have occurred here such as: In 1984-85 there was an intra Municipal Shooting Competition held at Englewood High School which ledto NRA member Norm Kelley participating who shot two rounds off an AK-47 carbine using paper targets provided by school staff; another accident happened when someone driving their car into a curb while parking lot attendant service pistol discharged bullets enters vehicle causing serious injury;; another occurrence occurred when someone playing tag outside crosswalk caused bullets discovered inside car rear window sticker engaging driver providing excellent photo opportunity allowing law enforcement access during traffic stop.; last but not least was an unfortunate incident that transpired when 2 teenage boys playing ball hit an accidentally fired gun belonging to homeowner father who then received threatening phone calls leading him TO call police!!! This type of accidental discharge happens ALL THE TIME IN OUR COMMUNITY WITH GUNS AND IT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED!

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[1] of 2010, there were 5,584 people living in Monroe Village: 3% African American; 98% White; 1% Native American; 0% Asian; 2% from some other race; 1% from two or more races; and 2% who were Hispanic or Latino of any race.[2]

The first school in Monroe was built on the site of the current high school in 1839 and operated until 1840 when a new school was built northeast of town. In 1843, a gristmill was built south of town and continued to be used until 1922 when it broke down and stopped operating. The first store opened in Monroe on Main Street in 1851. In 1862, a saw mill was built northwest of town and continued to be used until 1923 when it too stopped operating due toheavy use by farmers during the Civil War period. A gristmill reopened east of town between 1915-1917 under the name Mainville Mill which later became known as Monroe Mills Incorporated. In 1925, this mill closed because of heavy competition from other mills throughout the area with similar equipment prices and hours; however, it reopened again as Albion Grist & Saw Mill Company Ltd.'s only source for grinders for local users beginning on April 1st 1927; this mill also manufactured flour for grocery stores throughout Southeast Michigan through 1978 before being bought out by ABI Mills Corporation (now JBS Foods) effective January 1st 1979 after over 100 years production output with more than 12000 jobs across 16 states - including 8000 jobs producing bread products!
