One such individual - John Davenport - voluntarily surrendered his garrison located at Fort Dearborn to Confederate troops on October 25th 1863 after five days' bombardment; he then took his family back to his home town where they lived until 1865 when they finally returned home to find it abandoned by Union forces 5 months later while still under Confederate occupation! "For more than 50 years", wrote historian Edwin Murchison "the history of Midlanders has been written about by those who have never set foot there themselves: white men outside observers who come here because it's easy to do so or people inside the town who write about what they see." This lack of scholarly attention likely accounts for some misconceptions about Midlanders among non- locals: For example – that MIDLAND is solidly Republican turf historically (it isn't); that residents are largely farmers or fishermen rather than professional professionals like teachers or doctors; that most people live close to their jobs near downtown instead of bothering with cultural attractions such as galleries or museums etc.; etc., all which are untrue according to current research! What does this say about our society today?
