Midland, Michigan is a small town in the heart of the Upper Peninsula. The population was 7,853 at the 2010 census. Midland is located on the east side of Lake Superior and is bordered by Huron County to the north, Sanilac County to the west, and Ottawa County to the south. It has a humid continental climate with warm winters and mild summers. The first people who lived here were Native Americans. They came from central Canada overland and hunted game in this area for centuries before moving downriver to what is now Midland. The first European settlers arrived in 1813 when John Fenton established a trading post here. Jens Jacobsen built a cabin here in 1828. In 1836, Andrew Jackson became president of United States and ordered Mexican troops to withdraw from Uptown after their victory in Battle of Tejas against American forces led by General James Kappeler. This event led to an influx of European-American settlers into our area, most notably David Muhlenberg who built his home near present day Midway Boulevard and State Street in 1830s as part of his land grant from President George Washington. In 1840, we had just 1 settler when US$1 was worth more than gold notes! By 1850, there were 27 farms with 9 families living hereabouts! Farming was important then as it still is today; many people are employed doing various jobs that support their families including agriculture because it provides food for everyone without going through wasteful production processes like manufacturing or exporting – something that's becoming increasingly difficult due to global trends like air quality destruction caused by industrial operations). During World War II (1941-1945), Midland was one of three military installations within Michigan open to civilians for training purposes only (the other two being Ft Wayne and Ann Arbor) Afterward things changed…midlanders awoke to find themselves isolated from much of society during those formative years following World War II (we later enjoyed some good times thanks largely theretovember 2007 thru may 2008 when gasoline prices plummeted nationally due primarilyto low crude oil production courtesy OPEC). However things have slowly been improving ever since then although recently experiencing some setbacks due 2 hurricanes which hit both MI & TX…..quite literally making life hard again as we go along 😦 midlanders are kinda resilient tho 🙂

Midland, Michigan is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan located on the Mackinac Bridge across the Straits of Mackinac. Midland was founded in 1837 by George Fitzhugh and is one of the oldest towns in Michigan. The population was 24,574 at the 2010 census, up from 21,746 in 2000. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what is now Midland arrived with ships sailing from England around 1689. They were led by Captain John Lounsbury who named his new settlement after himself, "Midland". Most likely because there was little land to be found near where they were disembarking and it seemed like a good place to live given that it lay on both sides of an open waterway connecting Lake Huron to Lake Superior (now known as The straits). In 1837, George Fitzhugh laid out a plat for what would become Midland on land that he had purchased from Michigander Isaac Chappell just west of present-day downtown Lansing. The town's namesake came about due to its location on two important waterways:the Mackinac Bridge and the Straits of Mackinac which connected Lake Huron to Lake Superior. In 1841, when Franklin D Roosevelt became president, he ordered federal troops withdrawn from all but Fort Dearborn which remained under military control; however Midlanders continued to pitch their roofs against Fort Dearborn until 1865 when General Anthony Wayne took over and relieved Fort Dearborn's garrison after its capture by Native Americans during Battle Horseshoe Swamp Campaign (1814). Thereafter Midlanders limited themselves largely to farming and trading saltpeter for goods imported downstream from Canada or Russia until World War II when they began manufacturing products such as radios and airplanes for American combat pilots flying over Nazi Germany. After 1945 most industry shifted inland away from the bridges into suburban centers such as Grand Rapids or Ann Arbor while much agricultural production Mueller Farms still remains today with headquarters based in Lansing along I-10 east of midtown MI
