This commerce helped lay the foundation for later agricultural development on both sides of MI Straits approximately one hundred miles long between Miami Peninsula on one side and Mackinac Island on the other; this important trade corridor continues to play an important role today._ On January 1st 1800–January 1st 1800 Jean Baptiste Point du Sable met with Indian chief Kaincaraguenagash at Green Bay about twenty five miles north west of Battle Creek near modern day White Cloud (now Roscommon). Du Sable claim sovereignty over all lands east or southwest across Shiawassee River excepting some barren hills within Natives' hunting grounds.—This meeting ended any hostilities between Red & Green Nation's leaders
