In 1925, Livonia became an independent municipality; it remains a charter member of MetropolitanDetroit Inc., which administers metropolitan Detroit's affairs including public education, police services, fire protection and economic development. The name "Livonia" comes from French-Canadian Pierre-Olivier Trudeau who named it for his maternal grandmother Louise-Marie (née Lavoie) Lafontaine (1814–77). The original home of the Trudeau family—a log cabin—stood on land that later became part of Livonia Township. One reason why this township was chosen to become Livonia was because there were no other townships within 10 miles (16 km) that had both rural character with good farmland for farming purposes as well as being situated on navigable waterwayside where commerce could be conducted; also offered were excellent schools opportunities for children living in such close proximity to larger cities or their equivalents like Buffalo or Chicago while still enjoying privacy and quietness necessary for good health. In 1837 John Belden9 moved his family from Canada to what is now eastern Wayne County after buying 2 million acres (8 km2) around present day Livonia Township from Simon Cohen10 across the Ottawa River at what is now West Side Highway 806 south of present day Clinton Avenue off I-94 between US 12W/ Glenn Road/ Highland Drive northward into Canada proper then Wabash Street east past today's Catholic Church downcurrents into Ottawa River about halfway between present day Lansing & Ottawa Falls then NW 1⁄ 4 mile past present time Stroudsburg thence upriver about half way to Rapids Landing rapids where he built their first house beside Canadian Pacific Railway tracks just upstream from current day Soo Line Railroad tracks NB across several feet wide stretch above low water mark then downstream below old rapids crossing under former Soo Line RR Tracks now S1/2 mile WSW Big Rapids Lake

Livonia (population: 12,000) is a small city in Macomb County, Michigan, United States. Livonia was founded in 1837 and became an incorporated municipality on January 1, 1907. The population of Livonia was estimated at 17,500 as of the 2010 census. The City of Livonia is the second-largest city in Macomb County with a population of 27,501 as of the 2016 census. Livonia has been inhabited by humans for over 10,000 years and is believed to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in America. In 1837, American settler Captain George Washington discoveredlivonia while sailing through the area on his way to Battle Creek. After landing and inspecting what he called "a wilderness", Washington decided that this location would make an excellent place to establish a town and named it after himself - Livonia Township was established on October 14th, 1837. Today's downtown area began developing around this time as businesses opened up and residents started moving into the community. The first post office in Livonia was established on December 11th, 1839; it served as the interim name for several months before being renamed Clintonville Post Office on January 6th 1840. The first town hall was built in 1840; it served until 1865 when a new town hall was constructed next door to what is today's courthouse which then served as the town hall until 1959 when it burned down. In 1845, two brothers named John Addison and James Addison bought land east of present day Maple Street from George Wohlgemuth for $1 per acre (0⅓ acres were sold). This land formed what is now known as Addison Heights which included much of central Livonia including present day streets such as Main Street/Queen Street/Oakwood Road/Hillcrest Avenue/Frisco Road etc.. It should also be noted that at this time there were no street names in Macomb County like there are today! On November 3rd 1850,- during General Harrison's Invasion Of Canada - three men walking their horse herds along Woodward Avenue came across some Indians who they thought were Horse riders but instead they were wearing canoes! They quickly realized that these weren't any horse riders because they had never seen anything like those before so they took them back home without harming them or taking any pictures! This event led to Henry Griggs becoming president pro tempore of the General Assembly for Michigan Territory on November 5th 1850-. At this time there wasn't even a state within Michigan yet so Griggs acted provisional governor which meant he had authority only if requested by other governors! This event also marked the start of real development within Livonia with many people starting businesses including groceries store Crouse & Reeds along with sawmills Prentice Millinery Company among others soon followed suit!. In addition to all these business owners coming into town things started happening inside government too; Griggs announced plans for a school system which would include a primary school and a high school! On December 15th 1850,- four days after President Griggs announcement - cornerstonefor what would become Ripon High Schoolwas laid out near where Ford’s Theatre currently stands! This event also signaled beginning construction on what is now North Court Square complete with buildings such as Library Tower (now known as Park Plaza), Courthouse Annex (now known as North Court Square Towers), Masonic Temple (now known Asbury Hall), State Capitol Building (now known simply ASBURY HALL), Grand Rapids Armory located just northwest of downtown via Dearborn St., Vanderveer Chapel located northeast corner Sheboygan Ave./Grand River Ave.,and more...over 80 businesses participated in laying out OF THE GRADES!!Today most if not all these building still stand serving local residentsucha varietyof uses(i.e.-schools-government buildings-commerce-retail stores etc.) throughout its history making Libovania one oasis amidst difficult times...
In 1871, a group of men from Livonia, Michigan founded the city. The name was chosen because it had been given to the town by General George Washington in 1784. The town was platted in 1877 and became an incorporated village in 1907. In 1922, the village merged with the City of Livonia to form a single municipality.
