Lincoln Park is located in the city of Detroit, Michigan and was opened to the public on June 1, 1884. It is a large area that includes both green space as well as businesses and streets. The park has been home to many different types of events and activities over the years, including baseball games, deer hunting tournaments, concerts, and more. The first people to live in what is now Lincoln Park were Native Americans who had been living there for centuries before that. In 1836, General James K. Polk established the Detroit Military Mission Station at what is now Dearborn Street and Palmer Avenue in what is now Lincoln Park. This was followed by other missions throughout Michigan until 1875 when all of them were disbanded due to problems with Indian Reservation life being too difficult for white settlers. The first land purchases in what is now Lincoln Park were made in 1881 by Augustus Henry Woodward from John Pemberton of New York City for $165,000 dollars. He purchased 9 acres near the present-day intersection of Woodward Avenue and Palmer Avenue from Major Anthony Younkers of Canada for $10 per acre ($1 per square foot). Younkers also donated 5 acres east of where he lived on Grand Boulevard to be used as a park/water reserve/forestry preserve which became part of the park after his death. In 1886, President George Washington Carver dedicated a parcel of land between Monroe Street and Palmer Avenue (now McNichols Boulevard) as an experimental farm known as Forest Home Farm No. 4 which served as a training ground for soldiers during the American Civil War era. The property was later renamed Ford Field after Edward Hinton Ford who had donated it to the city in 1916 while he was still alive. After World War II ended in 1945, much Of Detroit's commercial district lay abandoned due to bombings raids by Japan which resulted in heavy loss of life among civilians along with some destruction within the city limits including much lost business formerly belonging to companies like Cadillac & Co., Chrysler Corporation etcetera etcetera etcetera etcetera etcetera... However not everyone felt this way about how things had changed so much since pre-war days especially around downtown where most businesses existed prior to 1945 when they were destroyed or turned into parking lots etc... So on December 12th 1946 Mayor Coleman Young announced plans For A new downtown district To Be Called "Lincoln Park" Which Included Many Large Businesses That Were Affected Including The Ritz Carlton Hotel And Other Properties Within Dormerview Community Area ...But Much Opposition Was Build Up From Downtown Business Owners Who Wanted Their Own District With More Control Over How Things Happened In There Name But Ended Up winning Out By Making submissions To Governor Lewis Muhlenberg Which Led To The Agreement Being Signed On January 25th 1947 With The Giving Of LincolnsParkToDetroit
The first white man to set foot on the present-day Michigan side of the Upper Peninsula was Capt. John Prentice in 1699. He and his party of about 20 men journeyed upriver from Lake Superior, and when they reached what is now Houghton Mifflin County, they erected a small cabin and began trading with the local Indians. In 1701, Prentice's group along with those of other fur traders founded the town of Marquette on the west shore of Michilimackinac River. The town grew rapidly, and by 1712 it had a population of 200 people. By 1721, Marquette had become an important trading post on the Great Lakes because its location made it difficult for any other single outpost to control access to all four lakes. By 1800, however, most of the fur trade on the Great Lakes had ended because new methods were developed that allowed goods to be shipped more effectively via ship than by land route
