In 1892, two brothers, Jesse and Andrew Schwarz, opened the first airgun store in Lincoln Park. Today, this business is still in operation and represents one of the oldest and most iconic airguns brands in the United States. The Schwarzs continue to sell airguns through their website and retail stores throughout the Midwest. Airguns were first developed as a way to hunt rabbits with shotguns. However, because they are so inaccurate at close range, many people began using airguns to shoot birds. By 1898, there were already several well-known brands of airguns available on the market. One of these companies was Sturm Ruger & Co., which started selling its own line of rifles called "Sturmovik" (later "Ruger"), among other products. During World War I, gun dealers across America donated firearms to help make war effort more efficient and effective. This allowed civilians to purchase guns without having to go through military channels or waiting for months or years for an allocation from government officials. Air Guns became popular during World War I because they could be purchased very quickly and easily by civilians who did not have access to expensive shotguns or rifles. In 1915, Sturm Ruger & Co.'s president George Kapp decided that he would create his own line of pistols called "Kapp's Pistol." This new product was successful enough that Kapp continued production until 1925! While Sturm Ruger & Co.'s pistols remained popular during World War I, they soon became overshadowed byfgair guns designed specifically for hunting game animals such as deer and turkey. At this point in time, Sturm Ruger & Co.'s founder George Kapp had moved on to other endeavors including forming his own company named Browning Arms Incorporated (BAI). BAI produced some of the earliest sniper rifles ever created – models known as the Browning BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle) and BAR-1916 (BAR-1917). These rifles were used extensively during World War II by American forces in Europe as part of Operation Overlord – Invasion Of Normandy! In 1946 BAI merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington Arms Incorporated (RAI). RAI continued producing firearms until 1993 when it ceased all operations due to economic problems!

In 1892, a man named George Nicholas bought an airgun from a gunsmith in Dearborn. The gun was called the "Nicholas Rifle." In 1903, Nicholas founded the Nichols Air Gun Company. He produced and sold airguns until his death in 1954. The company continued to produce firearms until 1971.

The land that now makes up Lincoln Park was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Lincoln in 1868, just a few weeks after he became President of the United States. The park is named for Abraham Lincoln because it is located on his old home ground in Springfield, Illinois. The area around the park has been changed many times since then, but it has always retained its primary purpose as a public space for residents and visitors to enjoy. The first version of the present-day Lincoln Park was designed by Drury Lane Associates, a firm founded by Colonel George Washington Carver. Construction began on the original park in 1871 and lasted until 1893. At its peak, the area included several acres of forest, gardens, lakes, and beaches. Today, only a small portion of the original park remains; much of it is used for parking or other purposes rather than being accessible to the general public. Lincoln Park originally functioned as an open-air marketplace where citizens could buy and sell goods from vendors set up along both sides of Woodward Avenue between Shiawassee Street and Grand River Avenue (now Grand Boulevard). In addition to selling items such as food and clothing, vendors also sold games such as checkers and chessboards, music instruments (including organs), books (including biblical texts), weapons, and more. The marketplace continued to be operated until 1906 when it closed due to competition from larger shopping malls that had been built nearby at this time. In 1907 Mayor Abram Jepson approved plans to create a large indoor amusement palace called "The Worlds Fair" inside what is now Ford Field in Detroit Heights on Dearborn Road near Gratiot Avenue (now Connersville Road). With an estimated budget of $500 million dollars ($ million today), construction began on what would eventually become one of world's largest enclosed amusement parks ever built. Lincoln Park is a large and popular park in the city of Detroit, Michigan. It is located on the south side of Woodward Avenue between Palmer Street and Grand River Avenue, east of I-75. The park was named after Ulysses S. Grant, who served as President of the United States from 1869 to 1877. The first public land in Lincoln Park was donated by John Darnall in 1868. The area that now includes Lincoln Park was originally part of what is now downtown Detroit. In 1870, Congress passed an act giving land to be used for a public park in Detroit. The initial donation included much of what is now eastern Lansing Township and western Dearborn Heights Township as well as parts of today's northside and northwest side of Detroit. In 1872, Mayor George Witherspoon chartered the Ford Company to build a waterworks within the boundaries of the newly created city limits. This company built two Intake ditches – one near present day Eastern Boulevard and Palmer Street and another at Isabella Road and Atlantic Avenue – which became known as Ford Field for many years afterwards. The original plot for Lincoln Park was southeast of these ditches on State street between Grand River Ave (now Trumbull) and State St (now Woodward). However, this location proved too remote so in 1875, Commissioners James Atherton & Augustus Kelley purchased 4 acres at what is now Maplewood Road/State St., east of Fourth Ward boundary line west of Clairmont Ave., site then occupied by earlier plots donated by John Darnall including much still extant today including Lincoln Baseball Field! In addition to purchasing 4 acres at Maplewood Rd./State St., commissioners also acquired 2 more parcels which formed Middlefield: along Bigelow Blvd./I-70 exit ramp past McNichols hospital towards Rouge Rd./Municipal Court house; plus about 1⁄4 mile EAST OF THAT LINE on North Side 3rd Av/Grand River Ave just Nw beyond modern day Joe Louis Arena - allEstate owned property currently comprising Capitol Hill neighborhood northeast corner MLK Jr.'s Drive NE corner Jackson Av soon after purchase !!!!!! map courtesy K+CPL [Keenan Cook Library]
