Gun magazines have a long and varied history in Lansing, Michigan. Magazines were first published in the early 1800s as part of gunsmithing manuals. The first pistol magazine was called "The Pistolero" and it was published by Hiram Percy Maxim in 1892. Magazine subscriptions became necessary for many citizens who wanted to own a gun, as guns were not always available at local gun shops. For a time, the only way to get hold of a new rifle or shotgun was to purchase one from a firearms dealer. This ordinance lasted until 1976 when it was repealed due to court decisions which held that it violated Second Amendment rights of owners of handguns. Gun magazines began appearing regularly in America during the late eighteenth century following the development of pistols by Samuel Morse and other inventors. At that time, pistols were still novelties and most citizens had difficulty obtaining them; therefore, most subscribers bought pistols only for themselves rather than sharing them with others. In 1795, John Brownell created The American Rifleman magazine which featured illustrations of military rifles being used against Native Americans scalps on Mount Paper Trail near Fort Wayne Indiana[2].Brownellwasthesuperstarofthisperiodicthatpromotedfirearmsuseamongthe generalpublicalongwithadvertisingservicesforriflesandslugs.[3]Duringthe1810sand1820s publishexposedanincreasinglyvastamountsofnewfirearmsserieswhichwereproducedbyarma manufacturersandsoldthroughgunsmithshopsaroundthecountry([4]).Atthistime PistolsbecamemorepopularthanRiflesbecausepistolistscouldkillmanypeopleathomequickandwithoutpremisesforthey Couldnotbuyamilitaryriflefortherself! During this period many famous shooters such as Henry Arno Armstrong developed their careers shooting pistols rather than rifles because they felt they had better opportunities doing so instead of becoming infantry officers or cavalry commanders like their counterparts in other countries where rifle shooting constituted almost 60% or more of their career path[5]. Militaries gradually became less popular among civilians after the introduction of breechloading single shot rifled artillery around 1812[6],[7].Thischangeovershouldberelatedtodevelopmentsuchasballistic projectile technology characterized by improved range over muzzle loading systems while also providing greater firepower due to its much higher explosive power[8],[9].Asa resultofthesechanges civilian powder-fed firearms slowly replaced militarily produced firearms throughout much Northwest United States starting about 1840– 1850 although some exceptions remain such as North Dakota where militaries continued into the 19th century [10],[11], Alaska where US forces fought off Russian attacks until 1917,[12]Oregonwherenonviolenceprevaileduntil1846,[13],NewYorkstatewheregunsreplacedwarriorsfrom 1830to 1860,[14][15], and California where arms production boomed until 1865 when California joined Mexico in 1861.[16],[17].

In the early 1800s, guns were a rarity in Lansing. There was only one gunsmith in town and he made pistols and shotguns. However, as muzzleloaders became more common, the gunsmith began to make rifles and shotguns too. In 1853, he opened his own shop and started making rifles and shotguns under the name of "The Rifle Maker". He continued to produce these products until around 1897 when he closed his store.

Lansing, Michigan is a city in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States. The population was 108,621 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in the state after Detroit and Flint. Lansing's nicknames are "The Hub" because it is home to many of Michigan's largest businesses, and "The Capital of the Midwest" because it is a major cultural and economic center in both the Great Lakes region and the Midwestern United States. Lansing first emerged as an important fur trading post on Lapeer River in 1795. In 1815, John Croom became its first Mayor and led efforts to create what would become Lansing as a capital for Upper Michigan. The effort failed but Croom made another attempt to establish Lansing as a capital in 1827 when he convinced then-Governor Anthony Wayne to fund a new courthouse and library building on State Street near present-day Capitol Square. The state legislature moved from Ann Arbor to Lansing in 1828, making Lansing the permanent capital of Michigan under George Washington Carver's administration. In 1870s, with increasing railroad traffic through central Michigans villages north of Grand Rapids, officials decided that an addition to downtown would be necessary for transportation needs; this led to construction of James A. Whitney's First National Bank Building on State Street (now within walking distance of Capitol Square). This was followed by completion of other downtown buildings such as City Hall (1874), State Armory (1875), Masonic Temple (1876), Mackenzie House (1877), Ford Motor Company Plant (1910) – which remains one of America's most important industrial sites –and Bearden School Annex (1912). With growing industry came increased commercial development including hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and shopping malls throughout town during the late 20th century while also creating significant amounts of housing stock across three districts: West Side neighborhood/Old Town district bordering Cass Corridor; East Side district bordering Dearborn Heights/Southwest Side district; North Side district bordering Southfield Township
