Kentwood is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan, located about 20 miles south of Detroit on I-75. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1853 and named for John Kent, a fur trader and landowner who donated land to the township. The first target shooters were men from nearby Saginaw andBay City, who traveled to Kentwood to shoot deer they had hunted during their trips to the area. A shooting ground was built on the east side of Main Street in 1858 and continued to be used until 1895 when it burned down due to an overloading of shot shells stored there. In 1899, a new target range was authorized by the state legislature which became known as "The Shooters'. It is reported that up to 8000 people could be accommodated at this range during its time use by both novice and experienced shooters alike. In 1951, a new gymnasium (now known as "The Park") was constructed adjacent to The Shooters' Range on Willow Lake Road in what has been called one of the most important civic actions in Kentwood's history. This structure served as an indoor firing range for both rifle and pistol shootings from then through 1976; it also housed an annual Fourth of July picnic which attracted thousands of visitors over those years! In 1978, automatic weapons were allowed within 500 feet of school property for law enforcement purposes; however, this allowance expired in 1984 after local politicians opposed it because they felt that automatic firearms could lead to more crime instead of lessening it. On October 3rd, 1996 – just days after 9/11 – Kentwood's municipal government voted unanimously not to allow open carry within its limits due to fears that such behavior would encouraging criminals into our communities! As you can see from these brief snippets about past events in my hometown -Kentwood has always been fiercely committedto using its Shooting Range for recreation & fun!

During World War II, Kentwood became one of the largest locations in Michigan for manufacturing munitions because it had proximity to three major factories: GM’s Flint Plant (producing tanks), Chrysler’s Toledo Plant (producing trucks) and Ford’s Ann Arbor Plant (manufacturing bombers). Today, many businesses have closed or moved out due to competition from other towns in Michigan or elsewhere in North America. However, there are still many local jobs that support the economy including carpentry work at General Motors Corporation's nearby plant; truck driving for Ford Motor Company; operations at the Ann Arbor plant where Lockheed Martin manufactures missiles;and teaching at nearby schools such as Central High School and Grinelda Intermediate School

Kentwood is a city in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. The population was 10,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The community was named for George Kent, an early settler and landowner. The first European to visit what is now Kentwood was Father Marquette in 1795. He explored the mouth of the Lioe River and reported back to France that he had found a great maritime route across Lake Superior to India. The first permanent settler in what is now Kentwood was John Potter who arrived in 1814 with his family from New York City. They built a cabin on the east side of town and soon started trading with Indians along the Rouge River. In 1825 they erected a small log courthouse which still stands today on First Street near downtown. In 1835, Major General Wayne founded Camp Meigs here after seeing Indian activity around Mackinac Island north of Detroit on his way from Battle Creek to open up Michigan Territory. General Meigs used this site as his headquarters until he moved it south to Clinton Township in 1840 due to increasing Indian hostilities towards whites living within their territory.–continue reading
In 1837, the first post office in Kentwood was established. The town of Kentwood was organized on November 1, 1837. On January 15, 1840, the first store in the town was opened. In 1847, a school was built and operated for students in the community.
