Kentwood is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Portage region of Michigan. The population was 2,615 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights–Lrice School District. The first settler in Kentwood was George Halsey in 1824. He purchased land west of present day Kentwood from the Potawatomie Nation. In 1830, John Dooley settled on land east of present day Kentwood and built his home, which still stands today as a museum within the town limits. In 1845, Alfred Prentice built a sawmill on what is now Main Street in what is now downtown Kentwood. By 1860, many stores and businesses had been established in downtown Kentwood with several churches also opening up shop during this time including First Baptist Church (1860), Methodist Episcopal Church (1861), and The Presbyterian Church (1862). By 1870, construction was under way on what would become the first school building in downtown Kentwood – that would be known as Mrs. Beattie's Schoolhouse until it burned down in 1906. Classes started for kindergarten students on January 3, 1870 and continued through high school graduation in 1886/87; by 1888 there were 11 schools within the district and more than 1,000 students attending them! The addition of an $8 million dollar expansion project to downtown Kentwood began on October 14th, 2009 and ended May 2nd 2013; originally designed by renowned architect Drury Lane Associates LLP., it included: an expanded plaza area adjacent to Main Street with new retail space along with new office buildings/condo units overlooking Main Street; as well as two new large multipurpose stadiums – one hosting college football games while another hosts ice hockey games each year – making it one of North America’s largest ever redevelopment projects initiated by government entities! Today DowntownKent Woods remains vibrant with many interesting shops & restaurants closeby while still remaining accessible via main street

Kentwood, Michigan is a small town located in the East Carroll Township of Plymouth County, Michigan. The population was 2,711 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing– Sterling Heights–Dearborn metropolitan area. The community was named for Colonel John A. Kent (1819-1890), a United States cavalry officer who had served in the Mexican-American War and in the Indian Wars. In 1875, he and his family moved to what is now Kentwood from their farm near Grand Rapids. Kentwood began as a small farming village with only 10 residents in 1900. By 1920, it had grown to over 100 residents and had added a school and post office. The commercial sector developed rapidly around World War II; by 1945, more than 50 businesses were operating in Kentwood. In the early 21st century, growth slowed slightly but has continued since then as new subdivisions have been built along Michigan Avenue north of town center near shopping malls and other employment areas. One result has been an increasing number of people living close to each other on small streets that are Parallel Street wide but have individual names that are difficult to remember if they cross street without turning first - so called "gridlock" Streets!
Kentwood was founded in 1827 by John and Anna Kent. The town was named for the area of Kent County, Michigan where it was located. In 1835, the village of Kentwood became a incorporated community. The population of the town reached 3,000 in 1841 and 5,000 in 1847. In 1861, the village of Holland was merged into Kentwood. By 1925, the population of both towns had decreased to 2,500.
