Kentwood is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 24,547 at the 2010 census[1] and is the county seat of Kent County. It lies within the Grand Rapids metropolitan area. The settlement began as a small community on the east side of what is now Grand Rapids, MI in 1837 when John Wirt and his family founded Wirt's Garden Store.[2] In 1851, George Hinton erected the first schoolhouse in town. The first post office was established in 1853, and by 1860 there were 10 residents living in town.[3] In 1865, Alfred Prentice built a sawmill on the west side of Grand River which became one of the largest mills in Michigan[4]. By 1870, there were 20 residents living in town with 2 businesses. The first store opened,[5][6] and soon thereafter other stores followed until most of town had been built up around it with several brick homes still standing today. By 1910, over 50% of its population lived within two miles (3 km) of its center while only 5% lived outside its boundaries! In 1912-13, local farmers formed what is now known as "The Farmers' Market Association" to promote village wide trade during their annual market gatherings that took place every weekend throughout central or upper Michigan starting Saturday night preceding July 4th each year since 1903 (the market has moved multiple times throughout its history). This event would bring together buyers from all parts of central or upper Michigan for an evening market stroll through downtown villages before enjoying a cookout at one or more nearby picnic sites beginning about 7 p.m.—a time many people enjoyed simply browsing several dozen vendors' produce stalls located around town square.) On October 15th 1913 after more than 150 years—and despite some very tough competition from Detroit’s “Three Musketeers” grocery store—the Farmers’ Market Association formally incorporated as a non-profit organization with land holdings stretching from Cadillac to Holland Tunnel—an event chronicled in biographical sketches and photographs ever since by members who have graced our pages over these intervening decades: Mrs. Fannie Baer (1915 – 2016), Roy Baer (1917 – 2018)[7], Mrs. Gladys Greenlee (1920 – present), Wendell Wisniewski (1922 – present).[8], Mr./Msgr./Mrs.(Emmaline) Cookseye(1925 - present) Itself having originated just east of downtown [9][10][11][12] on cornerof Main StreetAnd State Road 8 near where current day I-75 meets US 131; it attracted interest from other villages even beyond rural communities across central/upper MI becauseBig Three Grocery Outlet went into business adjacent to facility making it possible for villagers neighboring Iroquois Park shopping destination to also enjoy high quality Gourmet food items same price point without being downgraded anyindexed service provider; today villagewide Internet access available through Village Hall

Kentwood, Michigan was founded in 1834 by George Washington Kent and his wife, Margaret. The town was named after the nearby Iron Mountain, which helped a great deal in its early development. In 1837, the town had a population of just fifty people. However, over time, Kentwood grew rapidly and by 1850 it had a population of 2,500 people. In 1859, the city of Detroit was founded and when it did so, much of what lay within Kentwood boundaries were taken over and became part of the new city. But due to this change in ownership and geography, as well as other factors such as economic stagnation during the late 1800s and rapid growth during World War I (which led to an increase in population), Kentwood has seen only modest growth throughout its history. Due to its small size and lack of infrastructure – particularly roads or schools – parts of Kentwood have long been considered quite agricultural backwaters. This is especially true around Brushy Bottom Road where many farmers still use large fields for their crops even though those same fields are now used for housing developments. However, thanks to efforts by local residents as well as state or federal officials over time, there have been some changes that have occurred in Kentwood that may help make it more prosperous than it has ever been before. One such effort is the construction of several major highways connecting Michiana with other parts of Michigan; this has helped improve access to resources like jobs and education for locals while also improving trade between the two cities. Additionally, various initiatives like grants made available through Governor John Engler’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative have helped bring about significant improvements in water quality within the town limits since they were first instituted there almost thirty years ago! Overall these efforts – both good and bad – seem to be working together to create something closer resembling a “normal” American community than might exist outside metropolitan areas full of fast-paced technological innovation11 Although not without controversy (and occasional demonstrations against development near brushy bottom road), overall Kentwood seems content with its current state given that most residents live close enough to work but far enough away from big box stores that they feel comfortable without them anyway12
