The right-of-way was given to the Lansing Railroad Company by Act No. 141 of 1893. This madeKentwood one of the earliest towns along this new line. When motor vehicles became popular during World War II, many people began driving into downtown Detroit which required more space than they could find near their homes or businesses; this led to development of nearby shopping centers like Grosse Pointe Park and Highland Park as well as new housing developments such as Paradise Hills and Meadow Brook Farms east of downtown Detroit (this area today is known as Eastside Village).
