Gun battles between the tribe and other groups were common and it was necessary for warriors to have able to shoot quickly and accurately. The area became a town in 1836 and soon started to prosper due to its location. In 1850, a school was built in town and it wasn’t until 1870 that a jail was built. That same year, the first police officer was hired in the town. Gun violence decreased in Kentwood from the 1800s through the late 1900s but there has been an increase over recent years. There have been multiple shootings in the town over the past few years, with one leaving two people dead and five injured.

Kentwood is a town in Oakland County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit–Warren Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white settlers in what is now Kentwood arrived in 1837 and erected a cabin on the east side of the river for George Washington White. In 1856, John Crouch settled here with his family from Illinois and built what became known as the Crouch House. The house still stands, located within the town limits today. In 1868, General Wm Haines arrived in search of fur traders and established a trading post at the head of navigation on the Rouge River. He named it Haines Landing after himself and placed a store there to provide goods for his men and goods brought back by traders travelling downriver. The landing continued to be used until 1898 when it was taken over by American Motors Corporation as their factory headquarters for Pontiac manufacturing operations. In 1906, Alice Worth moved to Kentwood from Detroit with her husband Reginald Worth and started an all-girls high school called Tuskegee Airmen High School which remains open today as one of America's longest running girls' schools (estimated to have educated more than 100,000 students). Alice Worth also founded numerous local charities including Our Lady’s Home Society (now St Joseph’s Healthcare) which provides housing for low income residents; Head Start; Lakeside Elementary/Secondary School which serves grades pre-K thru 8th grade; Holy Cross Catholic Church where services are offered from MorningStar Baptist Church across from Lakeside Elementary/Secondary School; Hope LutheranChurch which offers worship services weekdays 9am-noon & 1pm-3pm & evenings 5pm-9pm; & First PresbyterianChurch which has been serving since 1907 as an adjunct church to Sacred Heart Catholic Church downtown with its large sanctuary& playground addition! On October 10th 1922 Dr JG Stephenson issued a proclamation designating Fenton Township consisting of parts of Oakland County including present day Kentwood as “Fenton National Forest Preserve” effective November 15th 2022 through December 15th 2022 inclusive! This parkland comprising over , stretching along both banks Of The Rouge River includes land including portions now within Townships of Wayne or Clinton & much easternadditional unsurveyed ruralland lying between these two townships containing some 3M acres—-the largest unincorporated area currently available for forestry purposes within Michigan! With this proclamation designation came several restrictions on development such as no motor vehicle traffic excepting during authorized forest fires or scientific research demonstrations only then subject to specific approvals by Park Ranger staff! This preserve contains many rare plant species found nowhere else throughout Michigan!

Kentwood is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek area of Michigan, United States. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights–Portage County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Kentwood were Scandinavian immigrants who came overland from Sweden in 1837 and 1840. They built a log cabin on the site of what is now the library. In 1862, a post office was established in Kentwood and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1934. In 1916, a group of farmers formed the First National Bank of Kentwood to help start up local businesses. The bank became well known for its lendings money to farmers during World War I and after the war; it helped make Kentwood one of the most prosperous communities in Michigan. The Mackintosh family settled here around 1870 when they arrived from Scotland via Canada with their children Alexander (1872-1941), Jessie (1875-1945), John (1879-1964), Donald (1881-1971), Archibald (1885-1966) and Murdoch (1900-1983). The Mackintoshes had come originally from Glasgow, Scotland but had moved to Canada because of political persecution there during Queen Victoria's reign. They operated an agricultural farm near present day Union Park until 1906 when they sold it and took up residence on land that would later become residential areas such as Maple Leaf Court, Spruce Street East, Canterbury Avenue North, Elm Street West and much later Brighton Place South which still stands today next to Union Park across from nearbymuskegon High School. In 1911 they purchased additional land east of their original farm block making them owners/ operators of what is now "the largest tract" contiguous with any other community in Michigan at that time - larger than evenMuskegon Heights itself! As this new land was being developed some early residents did not want their name attached to anything specific like streets or avenues etc., so various collective names were chosen including "The Village", "Oak Lawn", "Villa Royale", "Belle Isle" etc... Some examples are: Belle Isle Drive/Avenue = Old Brocken Road/Belle Isle Boulevard; Oak Lawn Drive/Avenue = Lansing Pike/Oak Lawn Road; Villa Royale Drive/Avenue = Royal Oak Rd./Villa Royale Boulevard
