The primary industry then until about 1930 was agricultural with corn being grown for processing into flour or feed for livestock; however since that time there has been some construction of housing developments on what used to be land dedicated to agriculture such as schools, churches (now defunct), office buildings etcetera which have caused some blighting along with loss of jobs due to suburbanization or migration elsewhere. Today most residents are self-employed with many doing things like home-based businesses or staying within walking distance of their places of work
