During World War II, Kentwood served as a military airfield providing logistical support for the war effort in Europe. After the war ended, the airfield came into use again as a commercial airport; however, it closed in 1993. Today, most people live within walking distance of either their jobs or local shopping districts (the only place where you can find fresh produce) which make up much of their economy. The community has experienced various challenges throughout its history - including both periods of prosperity and economic stagnation - but it has always managed to persevere and thrive despite them. In recent years there have been efforts to revitalize downtown with new restaurants andlofts; however progress has been limited due to lack of resources and opposition from some residents who see little point in adding more parking to an already crowded street grid (which already suffers from Congestion Control District issues). Despite these difficulties, thoughspite all odds Kentwood still retains its friendly atmosphere and vibrant spirit - something that makes it one of my favorite towns to visit!

Kentwood is a small town in Macomb County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,118 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lansing Metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Kentwood was Nicholas Prentiss, who arrived in 1814 from Hartford, Connecticut. He built a log cabin on the south side of the river just east of the present day village core. A post office called Kentwood was established in 1827 and remained in operation until 1865. In 1830, Henry Tilton founded a gristmill on the west bank of the river near what is now its intersection with State Highway 11 (now US-11). The flour that was produced at Tilton's mill became an important source of income for settlers around Kentwood and for local merchants who bought it back and resold it to farmers and consumers. The mill also supplied water to residents for home use and for powering mills located north of town along Water Street and east of Old Fire Road
Kentwood was a small town in the immediate area of Detroit, Michigan from 1855 to 1925. It was located on the north bank of the river Rouge, between Wayne and Oakland counties. The population was 1,752 at the time of its incorporation as a township in 1855. The first settler in Kentwood was James Sibley, who arrived in 1854. By 1865, it had 30 residents. The township's first government was a meeting house and schoolhouse organized by Isaac Haggerty on February 11, 1855. In 1865-1866, the township added three other rural blocks to its territory: Cedarville (north of downtown), Clinton (west of downtown), and Orchard (southwest of downtown). Nathan Bedford Forrest made his home near Kentwood from 1885 until 1889 when he moved to Dearborn County. In 1897 he sold his land at 4474 Woodward Avenue to Alfred Piggott for $3,000. Piggott built an gristmill on this site which became known as "Kentucky Fried Mill" because much of the corn that went into it came from Kentucky. The mill continued operation until 1915 when it closed because of financial difficulties caused by World War I shortages and increased competition from other mills in the area.
