In 1839 when US President Andrew Jackson signed executive order No 1 ordering allNative American tribes to be removed from their lands east of the Mississippi River because they were considered hostile enemies due to their resistance against white settlement - British fur trader Sir George Simpson reported seeing Indians living peacefully alongside white people near present day Kalamazoo on what are now Mackinac Island along with other areas now within Michigan's Ottawa County . These events led to increased Federal efforts to forcibly remove all Native Americans from their lands throughout much Northwestern United States leading ultimately to the Creeks' removal via treaty negotiations in 1851 culminating with Treaty #3 negotiated by US Secretary Of State James Keneally at Grosvenor House near Detroit .
