The Townsite Clause (Article IX, Section 5) granted to Kalamazoo Township, Incorporated under th provisions thereof by an act approved July 1, 1897 (34 Stat 7), affirmed that all land within said township lying within or bordering upon any watercourse within or adjoining said township shall be subject to real estate ownership and control by members thereof at common law from time to time’; this clause having been inserted into township charter effective May 15th 1898 (33 Stat 338). In 1907, Detroit Lions running back George Blanda played his last game for thetownship team before moving on to play professional football with the Canton Bulldogs in nearby Flint, Michigan then later playing for a season with the Detroit Wolverines before returning home to play for Acton & Company again which he led to victory against rival company Lansing Machine Tool company on October 13th 1909 at Masonic Hall…. By 1912 there were over 200 businesses operating around downtown Kalamazoo including banks and grocery stores as well as printing and publishing plants making it one of America’s largest industrial cities during that period…. In 1916 local labor leader Julius Genovese became boss of Teamsters Union Local #425 while working at Actons candy storerooms….. On December 16th 1941 Japan bombed Pearl Harbor resulting in almost 400 deaths including some employees atActon Paper Products plant who had worked convoying supplies through cold war military zones
