Jackson, Michigan is a small city located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The town was founded in 1839 by John Jacob Astor and his wife, Lucy. It became a borough in 1907 and a city in 1957. The population was 23,853 as of the 2010 census. Jackson is named after General Andrew Jackson and was one of the original 13 cities included in the Grand Rapids area when it was formed on November 3, 1824. The first scopes were made by Daniel Coit (1793-1868) and other manufacturers around this time. In 1865, Samuel Colt began manufacturing firearms here. By 1900, scopes had become an important part of rifle shooting sports throughout America. In 1937, Ives Corp., maker of binoculars and microscopes began production here at its new factory on North Main Street east of downtown. With equipment that had been designed for military use during World War II, Ives produced some of the most advanced microscopes available at that time for civilian use such as the Vixen microscope which could be used to see things like bacteria under magnification up to 100x! Today, Ives Corporation manufactures optics for both scientific research and consumer use including riflescope products such as their own Academy line of scopes marketed towards amateurs/ recreational shooters alike! During World War II Jackson served as Headquarters for Army Ground Forces Southern District Service Command located in Dearborn Heights until relieved on July 15th 1945 by Third Army headquartered near Green Bay Wisconsin where they remained until relieved by First Army headquarters near Detroit Michigan on October 10th 1945 with responsibility for all western U S Military areas west of Lake Superior Including all Canadian Provinces Until relieved again by FourthArmy Headquarters just south of Windsor Ontario on December 15th 1951 with Headquarters responsible for all Canadan provinces north thereof Until relieved finally by EighthArmy HQ just north of Toronto Canada on February 16th 1956 effective date being May 1st! Jackson has always been an active community with many businesses and organizations spanning many different interests throughout its history! Some notable examples include: The Masonic Lodge #2 (formed 1841), United Daughters Of The American Revolution (founded 1912), Eastern Merchants Association (formed 1902), Knights Of Columbus #527(formed 1886), Royal Canadian Legion #1(formed 1914), American Legion Post 921#2*(formed 1921), Methodist Episcopal Church (organized 1840) & First Baptist Church (organized 1796).

Jackson is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Port Huron metropolitan area in southeastern Michigan. The population was 7,517 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Muskegon–Harrison Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white people to set foot on what is now Jackson County were French fur traders in the 17th century who traded goods with Native Americans and Europeans. By 1800, there were about 1,000 Indian farmers living near what is now downtown Jackson. The first settler was George Washington,Jr., when he arrived in 1817 from Virginia and founded a log cabin on the banks of the Muskegon River. In 1825, John Smeaton built a gristmill on the Muskegon River which became one of Jackson's leading businesses. In 1827, Greenough purchased land east of present day downtown Jackson from Chief Tecumseh for $5 per acre (the equivalent of $ in ). He began to build a small village called Portage around his mill and farmstead. The village grew rapidly and by 1830 had a school, store, gingerbread house and tollgate gate. In 1831 Greenough sold his holdings to developer Nicholas Bacheller for $100 per acre (equivalent to $ in ). His new development included four blocks long with two blocks wide between each block; it featured large marble buildings including churches and schools as well as warehouses used by local merchants for storage or shipping products such as lumber or flour. Bacheller named his development "Jackson" after General James Kincaid's army that fought against British forces during the American Revolutionary War while located nearby at Mackinac Island Barracks (). After several years of construction, Bacheller's establishment opened its doors on November 3, 1835; it soon became known as one of Detroit's most important commercial districts (). On July 12, 1840, just days after being elected president of Michigan due to being largely unopposed by any major political party candidates (), Andrew Johnson received an honorary degree from Jacksonville University () in Jacksonville Florida where he had attended law school before becoming an United States Congressman from Michigan’s 2nd congressional district (). Johnson then traveled south to visit Bacheller and approved plans for what would later become Downtown Jackson which would include over 100 residential units along with commercial space including six stores/stores plus two banks/banking firms: First National Bank (founded1834) & PNC bank (founded1836). 1st National Bank moved into their current building adjacent to Pioneer Courthouse Square on November 6th 1984

The name comes from the Potawatomi word Ijaxon meaning "the place where the water flows." The first settler in Jackson was George Armstrong Custer who arrived in 1836. Headed by Captain John Davenport, the party consisted of twenty men and four wagons. They traveled upriver to what is now Battle Creek and then downriver to present-day Jackson on July 12, 1836. There they erected a log cabin known as "Hickory House" on land donated by Nicholas Hickory. The first school in Jackson was built in 1840 by Mrs. Martha Morse with funds provided by Mr. John Laddsman. A second school building was erected soon afterwards but it burned down in 1842 during a storm that swept through the area after impounding General Custer's horses on the way back from an expedition into Iowa Territory (now Minnesota). Jackson became an incorporated town on December 14, 1847 under the name of Oneida Township with a population of sixty-four residents including twelve children of General Custer and his wife Helen Dixon Custer born in Illinois just before their arrival in Dearborn County two years earlier to father – or so we are told – both Ulysses S Grant (1822–1885) and James Kossuth Lincoln (1846–1925). Other early settlers were Isaac Taylor (1840), David Mears (1841), Job Chapman (1843), Israel Wheeler (1845), Hiram Berryhill (185?), Lewis Campion(?) (187?), Elijah Couchman(?) (189?), Jonas Nye(?))
