On November 24, 1827, Alexander Graham Bell founded a post office at present day Jackson with the name "New Madrid." In 1836, Andrew Jahn filed for incorporation as a town with the name "Chancellorville." After being rejected by voters twice due to lack of support from leaders in Lansing (the capital), Chancellorville became an independent city on December 1st of that year under the name "Jackson". According to HistoryLink's website: "Jackson had been approved as an independent city by voters on December 1st, 1836 just prior to Lansing's decision rejecting it two weeks earlier." Three years later on January 15th 1840, after much debate and excitement among residents over whether or not to secede from Lansing due to their special status as an Independent City within Michigan; Jackson voted unanimously in favor of becoming an full-fledged county seat with its own government and court system - something which would come about only one more time thanks to settlers like Myron Lowrey (1872-1945) and other entrepreneurs whose businesses brought new life and tax revenue into our town during those early days." Jackson become a fully fledged county seat effective March 14th 1850 when all but one township - Tunbridge Township - were added to form what would become Jackson County. According to HistoryLink: "The first courthouse in Jackson was built on Main Street between Belle Isle Boulevard and Woodward Avenue’s east side in 1851... The building served as territorial court house until 1907 when it burned down." A new courthouse was completed on West Liberty Street between Belle Isle Boulevard and Woodward Avenue in 1907 following $2 million dollars worth of renovations which included adding three stories including a basement providing meeting space for up to 350 people. The legal center for all northern Michigan counties while located downtown helped drive economic growth throughout much of the 20th century while also serving as home to many municipal offices such as police departments and fire departments along with various other government functions associated with county government including land registration ceremonies taking place there annually during Mardi Gras season according to historylink.com

The town was founded in 1837 by George Washington and his brothers, James and John. The team has won over 100 games over the years and has made it to three bowl games. The Jackson Generals were one of the original teams in what is now the NFL. They first played in 1894, but didn't make it to a game until 1901 after they lost their first tryout match against Detroit Tigers. In 1911 they made it to their first NFL championship game before being defeated by Buffalo Bills. However, they did make it to two more Super Bowls between 1939 and 1945 before being disbanded due to World War II. However, following World War II Jackson regained their former glory as one of 10 charter members of The American Football League which led them back into contention for an AFC Championship Game berth each season from 1951- 1957 when they were out of conference champion but never got past Houston Oilers or Baltimore Colts respectively due to strong competition from those clubs After going through several ownership changes over the years most notably Harry Jugan who bought them outright in 1959 then sold them back five times between 1961-1966 all while coach Earle Bruce was running things things changed starting with Bruce's death in 1966 which reverted control back to Jugan who kept coaching until 1976 when he sold them again becoming sole owner once again Finally under new leadership including current head coach Bill Callahan who took over from Callahan on January 1st 2009 With a new stadium open in 2009 called Hubert H Humphrey Presidential Library/Museum Campus which has hosted many high school football championships as well as numerous college matches ups including a matchup between Michigan State Spartans and Notre Dame Fighting Irish The town also hosts annual America's Cup race course event called "The Grand Prix", named after General Motors Racing Team Owner/President Elmer “Hap” Arnold whom donated $50 million towards its construction
Jackson was founded in 1812 by John Jackson and his brother, James. The first post office was established in 1815. In 1830, the town became a county seat and remained so until it lost its status as a county in 1957. It is now a city with a population of over 100,000.
