Jackson is a city in the Mackinac County, Michigan, United States. The population was 18,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mackinac County. The city was founded in 1837 and named after General Andrew Jackson. The first white person to set foot on what is now Jackson was David Richardson in 1837 when he explored the area for fur traders. His party arrived on July 7th and 8th and discovered a meadow with some trees before continuing out into what would become downtown Jackson. At that time it was part of Ottawa Township. In 1840, John Dickey built a cabin on the west side of current State Road 6 between where I-96 meets US 12 and NW 24 about two miles east of present day downtown Jackson. This location would later be known as Dickey's Landing or Old TownJackson because it served as the first permanent home for many people who settled here over time including Territorial Governor James Kalkaska and his family during the early years of Confederation. In 1847, President George Washington made an appearance in town while attending a rally against Native American raids taking place near White Lake near modern-day Lansingburgh which took place during his presidency; this event is sometimes referred to as "The Battle of White Lake". In 1850, when Josephine Baker visited from Indiana she used Fort Dearborn for shelter from Indians but returned to Independence Square just south of today's Michigan Central Station before ascending Canada River via Canoe Path to give a speech at Hull House; this event is also sometimes referred to as "The Speech from Independence Square". This period saw an influx of young people from Great Britain looking for work during times of economic recession due to lack of opportunities elsewhere back then across North America however most notably (and controversially) free black settlers started moving into Jackson starting around 1860s soon followed by Germans following shortly thereafter making up almost 50% majority in late 19th century by 1890 Census even though they only constituted 5% total population according to 2000 Census data! It wasn't until 1971 when all public housing projects within City Limits were terminated effective November 1st thereby ending over fifty years(!!!)of racially segregated living conditions within our community through policies put into effect by then City Manager Roy Jablonski despite unanimous outcry throughout our city government led by then Mayor Dave Bingham who stated "There has never been anything more important or constructive done within these walls than creating open markets & opportunity" thus placing history squarely behind us once again!

In recent years, Jackson has experienced declining popularity as a result of various factors including high taxes, limited job opportunities, and weak economic prospects. However, there are still some significant cultural attractions that make Jackson an interesting place to visit such as its unique architecture and history.
