Inkster is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,788 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids–Holland metropolitan area. Inkster is located on the western edge of Grand Rapids and its limits are defined by US-131 to the north, I-75 to the east, and M-10 to the south. The first permanent settler in Inkster Township was Daniel Ford who arrived in 1798 from Connecticut with his family. He built a cabin on what is now Depot Road near present day Elmira Road. Ford had five children and they all married into other families: three sisters married into Frank Haggerty's family, one sister married into George Smith's family, and Daniel's wife Sarah died young while he still lived at his cabin. Inkster Township was organized on January 24, 1827 under Section 3 of township law #824 (now section 4). The first postmaster was James Dickson who served from 1829 to 1831; Hiram Gorham served from 1832 to 1840; John Sperry served from 1840 to 1845; Ebenezer Dunham served from 1846 to 1850; Amos Dowling served from 1850 to 1860; Elijah Hubbellserved from 1860 until 1865 when he resigned because of ill health; Alfred Worthy served for one term as Mayor in 1865 before being replaced by Averill Cushingworth who also resigned because he could not run for office again due to his deafness A train stop called "Inkster Landing" existed on an island in Big Lake until it closed due to vandalism in 1965 after which it became known as "Lake Isabella". In 1951 a new interchange opened between I-75 and Woodward Avenue near Inkster which allowed easier access into downtown Grand Rapids through this larger intersection than necessary prior to that time which caused some concern about traffic congestion within Inkster Township itself both during peak hours and then later at night when I-75 becomes Interstate 94

In 1824, an act to sell land within present-day Inkster Township to settlers was passed by Michigan General Assembly. The town began to grow rapidly due to its location and opportunities for industry and trade which led to it becoming one of the most important towns in southeast Michigan during its early days. In 1828, a new bridge was built over the Huron River; this made it possible for goods traffic between Grand Rapids and Detroit to bypass what had been a lengthy journey through difficult countryside on horseback or oxen teams. This increased business activity around both cities which stimulated development along several lines: real estate, engineering, shipbuilding and other heavy industry started appearing in Inkster soon after; while also bringing more students into nearby schools as well as creating new businesses such as restaurant and retail spaces catering to local tastes found only in larger East Lansing or Flint areas at that time By 1881, when inksters merger with neighboring village Spring Lake became effective under state law following a vote by voters there too, inksters had become one of five municipalities comprising metropolitan Grand Rapids – making it one of only two incorporated communities located entirely within present-dayGrand Rapids County . By 1900 there were 546 residents living in inksters limits alone; today’s population stands at 383 with many daytime jobs available close by . Many businesses have continued unchanged since their incorporation including: Kresge Drug Store/Grocery store/Laser Lab/ fertilizers etc.; currently run by 3 generations same family
