The town's first mill opened in 1892 and it produced a variety of paper products such as labels, envelopes, and flyers. The city's second mill opened in 1916 and it became the largest in the area. Paper production increased throughout World War II due to the need for military uniforms and other supplies. In 1967, Inkster annexed nearby Hillcrest Township (later part of Holland) creating a new municipality with a population of over 10,000 people. The annexation added an additional 5,000 acres to the city limits making it one of the most expansive municipalities in Michigan. In 1976, Inkster Mayor John Dorney proposed that the city become fully digital by becoming the first municipality in Michigan to adopt statewide electronic voting requirements (EVR). The proposal passed unanimously and was implemented on October 1st that year. Inkster is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. The Inkster School District covers parts of the town including Inkster Township and White City Township. The first people to live in what is now Inkster were hunters and gatherers who hunted game near present-day White City between bluffs on the Kawkawa River and old logging roads. By about 9,000 BC, some Paleo-Indians had settled around where White City now stands, probably through accidental discovery by traders travelling along the eastern edge of Lake Huron in search of new resources or for trade with other groups living along that watercourse. In 1824, Canadian fur trader Capt Alexander Mackenzie set up a trading post at Fort Detroit on Green Bay Peninsula after his exploration of that area failed to result in any valuable discoveries; he named it Mackenzie's Landing after his captaincy (the landing site today is known as "Mackinac Island"). In 1836, John Stephenson founded an unsuccessful colony called "Island" on Little Kalamazoo River just south of present-day Inkster; within two years he abandoned it because lack of food and disease caused by smallpox led to its abandonment as well. In 1840, Nicholas Doerflinger established a fur trading post on land east of present day Inkster; this post was abandoned due to Indian raids during Queenston Expedition but reoccupied by Doerflinger's brother Bernhard shortly thereafter when supplies stopped arriving from Canada due to war efforts there By 1850, much land east ofpresent day Inkster had been explored and claimed for settlement following surveys made by George Simpson during his 1840–1851 expedition across the upper Great Lakes region; including surveys for what would become Mackinac County located adjacent to present day Inkster township . After several failed attempts at establishing permanent settlements due mainly to lack of funding from both Canada and United States governments over several years starting in 1855 until 1861, Adrian Gilbert established an unsuccessful fur company called "Adrian Gilbert & Co." which became famous for their successful hunting expeditions into northern Ontario during this time period . On July 8th 1857, Augustus Kelley erected a granite marker near what is now Center Road commemorating his group's attempt to establish a commercial fur trade route from central Michigan via Georgian Bay down Georgian Strait through Lake Huron northward - one possible leg being via Blackwater Rapids - only five days before they were shipwrecked off shore while exploring that strait Later that year Gilbert organized another group under name "Gilbert Brothers" which successfully completed an arduous journey northwest from Georgian Bay via Ferry Point built atop high cliffs overlooking modern day Isabella Harbor prior to reaching Camp Atikokan (now Thunder Bay) on October 16th 1857 .. making them oneofthe first groupsknowntohave traveledthatfarnorthwestduringthe open North American winter

Inkster was founded in 1837 by General Edward Dearborn and his brother-in-law, Colonel John Denny. The Dearborn brothers built the first store on the current site of the current library in 1840. In 1845, General Dearborn sold Inkster to Augustus Woodward for $1,000 cash. In 1865, inksters seceded from Michigan and formed their own state called "Inkster". In 1870, they purchased land near Saginaw Township and built a new courthouse which still stands today. The Black Forest Brewery was opened in 1915 by Eben Mears and his son Ben Mears II as one of the largest breweries in America at that time. After World War II ended, it became an anchor brewery for Chrysler Corporation's US car production until it closed in 1957. During this time period many famous people such as Joe Louis (who drank at Black Forest Brewery) had their beer celebrated with special events such as open bottles nights or prizefights sponsored by the brewery itself. Today Ben Mears III continues to run Black Forest Brewery as a brewpub operation with about half a million barrels brewed each year across its five brands: Oktoberfestbier (the flagship), Weissbier (a Schwarzbier style), Dunkelweisse (a dunkel color lager), Hefeweizen (a hefeweizen style) and Blonde Ale (a light ale). Following years of economic prosperity brought on by heavy investment from Chrysler Corporation and other companies associated with downtown Detroit's rebirth following World War II,[4] Inkster reached its peak population growth rate around 2000 according to government estimates; however this rapid expansion came at a cost to local schools due to increased demand for housing and transportation within walking distance of businesses catering primarily to tourists rather than residents or students.[5] By 2006 Inkster had lostapproximately 20% of its total population since 2000 due mainly to departures of young professionals residing close by who moved into larger municipalities such as Flint or Lansing instead[6] while also losing more jobs related to manufacturing because those industries have shifted towards other nearby cities such as Toledo or Ann Arbor instead[7]. However recent Census data reveals that even though there has been some decrease in population size overall over the last fifteen years,[8] Inkster remains one of Macomb County's most populous communities with over 2,500 residents currently living there; many high-quality job opportunities remain available throughout town despite these declines although retail development has begun moving away from Main Street towards newer areas adjacent thereto including The Living Room restaurant & bar located on inkstershore just east of town center while several multi-family dwellings have recently been erected along State Road 810 north between Mack Avenue/Rochester Boulevard/Willow Lake Drive/Hawk Place Drive -all within easy walking distance -offering excellent access both ways into town center making it an ideal location for shopping[9].
