Inkster is a village in the U.S. state of Michigan and is part of the Grand Rapids-Westland, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 9,471 at the 2010 census. Inkster has a long history with firearms, dating back to 1837 when rifle manufacturer David Dixon opened his business in what is today the town's Main Street. Dixon produced rifles for the Indian Wars and other conflicts and continues to make firearms today as part of its pistols division. In 1871, rifle manufacturer George Hennig started production in what is now Inkster Township; he continued to make rifles until 1893 when he moved his factory to Battle Creek. In 1898, pistol maker John Melson opened his shop on Gratiot Avenue in Inkster and continued producing handguns until 1955 when he closed his business due to financial difficulties. Inkster was home to one of the first gun shops west of the Great Lakes during Prohibition; "The Pistol Shop" operated from 1924-1927 under proprietor Edward Jansen. It was later bought by Harry Rosenfeldt who operated it until 1978 when it closed again due to lack of customership (Rosenfeldt reopened it briefly in 1984). Gunslinger Trading Post occupied an adjacent building from 1951-1978 before moving into its current location on Isabella Boulevard across from Gratiot Elementary School which serves as its original storefront . At that time it became known as "The Gun Box" because all guns were sold openly within view of customers - something that still occurs today although sales are more limited inside The Gun Box than outside thereof

The Inksters were among the first to settle in what is now Inkster Township and built a log cabin on their farmstead which they continued to use until 1907 when they moved to their present building. Inkster has seen its share of growth over the years, experiencing a significant increase in population from 2,100 people in 1950 to 3,500 people in 2000 and 4,000 people as of 2010. In recent years there have been efforts made by the town government to develop both its economy and infrastructure including plans for a new school and health center as well as development of an outdoor amphitheater that can seat up to 300 spectators. Today's economy relies heavily on agriculture with substantial production taking place around the clock throughout many different fields such as corn, soybeans, potatoes, applesauce and other fruits and vegetables; paper mills produce pulp products including paperboard; local services include law enforcement (including fire service)and water treatment; while tourism plays an important role providing numerous opportunities for visitors who enjoy hiking or fishing within easy reach of the town center or visiting three nearby theme parks: North Bay Regional Park (serving as headquarters for several smaller municipalities within Grand Rapids metropolitan area), Isabella County Park located immediately south of town on M-10 just outside Ofallon Lake Erie National Recreation Area boundary - one third complete - with rides/attractions like kayaking/canoeing available - plus 10 miles long zip line running through Isabella County park system administered by inkster township government free from charge for all visitors ages 6 or younger! The elementary school located across Main Street from post office continues unchanged since it opened in 1955 with grades K-12 following traditional 9-month block schedule followed by 1½ year “intermediate” middle school program which provides opportunity for special needs students who are not meeting grade level standards but do have some ability beyond basic skills required for success such as math problemsolving etc.; high school graduation requirements add another full year of coursework leading up to diploma or equivalency testing provided by state approved programs such as Wayne State University preparatory academy where students spend one summer term prior to entering college before completing their undergraduate degree program at Wayne State University!

It has been reported that Inkster residents are among the most passionate about their town's history, specifically its connection to local printing products and businesses dating back to 1868. Many residents have taken pride in preserving both their town's past and its unique culture while also participating actively in various historical preservation efforts statewide. In addition to its own collection of vintage prints, films, books and other items related to local printmaking, Inkster also hosts monthly photo exhibitionsfeaturing work from area artists during Art Month events throughout the year."
