Many residents took up positions in local government beginning with Mayor Worthy’s election campaign promise that all citizens would be treated equally under the law no matter their Social Status or race (this led directly to later protests against Jim Crow laws). And so it goes—from our humble beginnings as a small community striving for success through innovation to being recognized as one of Michigan’s most vibrant areas today!

Inkster was first settled in 1837 by Nicholas Inkster and his wife Anna. The town was named after Nicholas' father, John Inkster. In 1875, the township of Inkster was organized and it became a part of the city of Detroit. In 1954, inksters voted to become an unincorporated community within the city limits of Detroit.
