Holland, Michigan is a small town located inKalamazoo County, Michigan. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights-Holland School District. The name Holland comes from the Ojibwa word "holla" meaning "to be gone." The first European to visit what is now Holland was Nicholas-Jacques Marquette in 1695. He and his group of French explorers were on their way to find a route to the Great Lakes when they traveled through this area. In 1701, John St. Clair came across this area while exploring the western side of Lake Huron and named it for Hontondel, one of his guides on that trip. In 1824, Dutchman Hendrik VanderZandt bought land here from local scholar Moses Dayton for $1 per acre. This land would eventually become the basis of Holland's biggest industry - agriculture - which continues to thrive even today. By 1840, there were over 200 farmers living in Holland Township; by 1900, that number had grown to 2,000 residents! Holland also experienced some great moments during its history - such as when it became the capital of Michigan in 1868 after Lansing was abandoned due to financial problems related to war efforts abroad; or when it was destroyed by fire in 1907 during an economic depression that hit much of America at that time. It wasn't until 1949 when Holland reopened its schools following a statewide campaign led by Republican Governor George Romney that things began to change again and growth resumed in the townspeople - culminating with its incorporation into Kalamazoo County as a true city Format in 1957! Today, Holland remains an economically vibrant community with many businesses active within its boundaries including: grocery stores (seven on Main Street), banks (twenty-four total), restaurants (eleven>, four bars/nightclubs/restaurants), health care providers (six primary care clinics and one hospital) and more!
Holland is a city in Macomb County, Michigan, United States. The population was 10,488 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Macomb County. The city was founded in 1837 by John Holland and other settlers from New York City. The first post office in Holland was established in 1838. In 1847, a sawmill and grist mill were built near the present-day intersection of State Street and Plymouth Road. A railroad arrived through Holland in 1870 and soon enough the town had a large population. In 1875, a brewery was erected and renamed Holland Brewery Company after the town's original namesake John Holland. The company prospered for many years until it went bankrupt in 1915; however, it reopened as an advertising firm that still exists to this day."
