Holland, Michigan is a small town in the Kalamazoo-Grand Rapids metropolitan area. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids-Muskegon-ioxon micropolitan Statistical Area. Holland is located on US 12 and is east of I-94. The first settlers in what is now Holland were Dutch refugees who came overland from Holland in 1814 to escape religious persecution there. They arrived by boat on the Rouge River and built a log cabin known as the "Holland House" on land that later became part of Holland Township. In 1825, John Crouch, an agent for Michigan Territory, surveyed land for a townsite and named it after his friend Cornelius Swenaeus, who had been governor of New York State at the time. When Michigan was organized as a state in 1835, Swenaeus was given lands east of I-94 as part of what would become Holland Township. By 1840, there were 10 buildings in Holland with a total population of 155 people. In 1848, when Holland Township was dissolved due to its lack of resources, its citizens voted to create their own township, which they did by petitioning the government. The new township had a population of 514 people when it was organized on March 1st 1850 When Kalamazoo County was created in 1865 from parts of Muskegon County including Holland Township (itself dissolution'd into parts), Dutch Reformed Church #7 served as the first church and town hall on Main Street between Elm Street and Ottawa Avenue (now Washtenaw Avenue). The building still stands today and has been used as office space by various entities over the years including: Kalamazoo County Executive Committee; Board Of Trustees; School District No 8; Village Of White Sands; and now First United Methodist Church (Kalamazoo). One can also find remnants from architectural styles dating back to before this time such as Greek Revival or Gothic Revival architecture present throughout most if not all sections of town - some more severe than others but alluding to early pioneer settlement/growth hereabouts! The current cultural iconoclastic history surrounding Dutch Reformed Church #7 began with an act that took place inside during choir practice one day in 1976 - members vandalismiously tore down an entire wall within earshot (!)of congregation services while everyone else remained unharmed! ensuing public outcry resulted in intervention by then local superintendent Drs Bob Duchateau & Don Nawrocki resulting in reformation activity taking place outside rather than insidechurch property ever again...ever! :)

Holland is a small city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the Detroit River between downtown Detroit and Highland Park. The population was 34,391 at the 2000 census, making it the 10th most populous city in Michigan. The largest employer in Holland is the Holland-Warren Community Schools District which employs over 1,000 people. The first permanent settler in what would become Holland was Nicholas de Molenaere who arrived in 1796 from Amsterdam with his family. He built a log cabin on an island near where he had landed and named it "Molenaere." De Molenaere's descendants settled there permanently beginning in 1814 when George Washington Irving moved from New York City to live and work at their father's business interests as an agent for John Davenport & Company. In 1834, James Kapp purchased land across the river from Nicholas de Molenaere and founded Kapp & Company with his brother David Kapp. The company became one of America’s leading transportation companies that transported goods throughout Michigan and Ohio until its acquisition by Rufus King Jr.'s Standard Oil Company in 1909). A mill was built on this site by David Kapp around 1840 which produced flour for local grocery stores before being destroyed by fire three years later (see below). In 1868, Alfred Pribbenick bought some of the remaining lands along the riverbank including what is now Holland-Warren Community Schools District property east of Woodward Avenue. This area would soon be called Pribbenick Park after him because much of it coincided with his holdings thereabouts (see below). In 1870, Pribbenick married Martha Cooksey and started to build a home west of present day Grand Ave., now known as Cooksey House (now part of Willis Towers tower complex). Their children were born here including future mayors United States Congresswoman Esther Dyson (1910-2001) and Representative Gerald Ford (1974-2008). In 1873, Hermann Janson established Saginaw Bay Co., predecessor to today's Huron County Road Commission which operated a ferry service across Saginaw Bay until 1959 whenriverboat services were discontinued due to lack of funding; also during this time HJ&C erected 3 frame buildings on current site of current school district HQ building still standing! On December 12th 1905 (the date marked by stone plaque on present day building) local boy Ernest Burgess set out 5 miles upriver from herebootleg canoe down Big rivers rapids hidden creek landing resulting only 2 boys made it back alive no survivors found body but story told many times long ago
The Dutch settlement of Holland in the 1600s was a time when the area had few people. The first permanent Dutch settlers arrived in 1624, and by 1630 there were over 100 Dutch families living in what is now Holland. In 1795, the Great Lakes region passed from British control to the United States after a war with Britain. The Treaty of Utrecht gave control of the area to the United States, which renamed it Michigan Territory in 1807. The first U.S. Post Office was established in Holland in 1837, and by 1840 there were over 30Dutch-owned businesses operating here. During World War II, Holland served as a military airbase for American forces during the Battle of Midway and other engagements in North America. After the war, Holland continued to serve as an American military base until it was closed down in 1964. Today, most of what is left of Holland are remnants of its early history such as its original Dutch settlements and post office buildings
