In 1925, when Michigan became a state following its admission to Unionism; Holland was one of the first communities to lose its charter as a municipal corporation due to lack of support from those within the governing party at that time. However, many residents still voted to keep their community alive by forming committees and holding elections through referendum ever since then. In 1957 voters approved becoming an independent city under charter amendment passed by 62% majority vote despite opposition from some within City Hall which saw annexation by Dearborn as more pressing issue at hand at that time; however this never happened due to political infighting within City Hall during what is now known as "the Ford Years". Since independence has been granted unto us once again (1998), we have taken steps towards Economic stability through various Committees & Initiatives like: downtown revitalization/promotion; beautification/modernization; voluntary membership dues program for Parks & Recreation Dept.; increase inidentifiable vehicle registration plaques throughout our Community thru “Lone Star” markings; establishment of one or two Neighborhood Watch Committees per each ward - all pursuant to Charter Amendment #2107-2008 ratified by Voters on November 3rd 2008; relocation assistance fund established specifically for citizens experiencing displacement during natural disasters or periods beyond our control

In 1824, after several failed attempts at secession from Canandaigua County, including an uprising by white farmers against Indian traders living near them, all Dutch residents petitioned for incorporation into Wayne County as part of what is known as “the Greatgrandson Settlement Plan”; however, this effort failed due to lack support among local officials.). This failure paved way for further speculation about whether or not Holland would remain an independent community despite its challenges or be annexed into larger areas like Canandaigua County until finally becoming defunct circa 1830-1850). The town of Holland was founded on October 15, 1817, by Dr. John Smeaton and others as a port on what is now Lake Huron. By 1830, there were over 2,000 people living in Holland. In 1837, the town began to receive mail from Detroit and other cities via boat from lake Superior. In 1849, an act was passed establishing a government for all of Michigan including Holland with Dr. John Smeaton as its first mayor. The city continued to grow rapidly until it had over 50,000 residents by 1860. On November 5, 1870, a fire burned through most of the buildings in downtown Holland leaving only about 10 standing before being put out with water from nearby reservoirs
