On December 12th, 1817, General Edward Mudge's Brigade marched into Holland to claim all or part thereof for America under terms negotiated by Commodore James Kneale with Mexican President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna at Monterrey River Bridge just outside present day Jackson Heights on Hudson Bayou north-west of downtown Holland. In 1831, Augustus Herrman began farming land near present day Waterford Township in Macomb County and built a log cabin which he called "Herrman House". This was one of many early settlers in this area who followed his example until there were only a few hundred people living hereabouts during its peak around 1840-1850 due to disease outbreaks brought about by Iowa Settlementers moving into this region during that time period seeking cheap land then available only through Native Americans such as Potawatomi Indians before white settlement began commercially hereabouts beginning about 1800s primarily via fur trappers making contact with these groups then later through missionaries converted or proselytized by various denominations prior thereto including Anglican Missionary Society begun separately then known as First Presbyterian Church building commissioning party consisting mostly Irish Protestants coming originally from Ulster Province also Protestants Presbyterians EpiscopaliansMethodists Congregationalists philosophical Moravian Baptists Quakers men women children born between 1795-1800 arrive with families soon afterwards continuing thereafter along side other waves later arrivals such as Germans Catholics Poles Russian Jews Lithuanians Swedes Danish Lutherans German Amish Mormons Fairs etc culminating circa 1870 most recent waves arrived following World War II populating mostly since 1940s some dating back as far back as 1890s style typical American small town village type lifestyle featuring 1 large school/library/shopping center 2 churches/synagogues 4 blocks wide main drag 1 block long main street 2 blocks wide side streets numerous smaller streets dozen businesses total

Holland, Michigan is a small town located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. Holland was platted in 1836 and became a city in 1907. The name "Holland" is derived from the Dutch word hollen, meaning "to rise." The village site that would become Holland was first inhabited by Miamis who hunted and fished on the lowlands around present-day Holland Township and Antrim Township along the Big Sandy River. In 1836, John Lapp founded a cabin and store at what is now known as Lapp's Landing on Big Sandy Creek near where modern day Lansing, Michigan stands today. After several years of business growth and development, John Lapp donated land to form what would become Holland Township on March 11, 1839. John Lapp's donation included his home (now known as the First United Methodist Church), millstream for running water (later renamed White Lake), two lots adjoining his home for school purposes (now part of current-day Antrim Township), one lot bordering present-day Lansing for burying cannons captured during America's War with Spain (the Battle of Hastings) between July 12-14,1812; four logs from a former sawmill which had been destroyed by fire weeks earlier; three cords of wood from an old gristmill; six bushels of red maize; five gallons of whiskey per barrel consumed; ten pounds Coal tar or pitch used for manufacturing purposes only; nine acres west side of what later became section 15 north which lay within present day Holland Township borders sections 16 south and 17 east.; one acre east side already lying within present day Holland Township borders section 18 west., forming part today’s downtown area In 1907, when Holland became a city under state law following its passage as part of Oakland County charter #1 it annexed portions of Antrim Township including partslying Lapp’s Landing Cabin Site now occupied by First United Methodist Church building The first mayoralty held by citizens George Ewing followed in 1911 with Wm Hickey serving as mayor until 1913 when Grover Cleveland took office Cleveland increased taxes to pay for defense causes during World War I while maintaining some services such as garbage collection . On January 1st1920 City Council passed ordinance reducing size and hoursof operationsof Municipal Services Department effective immediately This move created many challenges headquarted into service changeover but resultedin increasein revenue resulting in new Public Works Administration construction project costing $2 million approved by voters November 7th 1928
Holland, Michigan was founded by John Holland in 1834. The town was named for the Holland family, which had a plantation in the area. The first store in the town was built in 1835. In 1840, the first school was built and the first post office opened. By 1850, the population of Holland had grown to over 350 people. The village of Holland developed around this time and became an independent municipality in 1870. In 1916, a fire destroyed most of the buildings in Holland and six years later, it merged with nearby Traverse City to form a new city called Holland-Traverse City.
