Holland, Michigan is a small town in the Kalamazoo area of central Michigan. The population was 5,382 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Kalamazoo County. The community is located on a bend in the Grand River and has a commercial center including a large KFC restaurant and several smaller businesses. Holland also contains two high schools and one college. The first inhabitants of what is now Holland were Petunians who lived near the mouth of the Grand River. They began to make pottery from clays that they collected from near-by rivers and lakes. On April 6, 1821, Nathan Sibley, an American fur trader and member of the United States Geological Survey, landed his party at what is now known as Davenport Landing on the east bank of the Grand River between Holland and Huron townships for exploring this new territory which he had just discovered. His men set up tents alongside an inviting bluff where they erected their trading post which served as their headquarters until 1824 when they moved to Fort Dearborn farther downriver where they established a more permanent trading post with land bought from Pembina Indian Chief George Hinton. In 1825 white traders founded what became known as Holland by purchasing 100 acres (40 hectares) of land west of present day downtown from John Aiken about three miles north of modern day Econo Lodge Road. Dutchman Hendrick Hendricksz was granted this tract on July 1, 1825 following his purchase from Aiken; it was part of Hecla Township then organized into addition to today's Holland Township under Gustavus Vrooman on March 30, 1830 In 1840 township voters passed resolution creating "Holland" village within its boundaries; village status was given to it by order dated November 15th 1860 pursuant to law 9 Petition No 2157 & Gazetteer No 1039 providing for establishment thereat Of What Is Known As "Holland", An Unincorporated Village Named After The Township Which Was First Settled By People From Germany And Poland Extinguished By The American Civil War And Its Suppression

Holland is a town in Ottawa County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1836 as a post office called Holland Station. The name of the town has been changed several times throughout its history, but it has always been spelled Holland. In 1836, Dutchman Johan Baptiste van der Graaf settled in what is now Holland and named it after his homeland of Holland. He had heard about the successful fur trade being conducted by the Canadian traders in this area and decided to set up shop here to take advantage of the opportunities. In 1840, he organized a school board and built a courthouse and jail in downtown Holland. The first school opened in 1841 and soon become one of the largest schools east of Chicago. The growth of Holland led to several changes for the community during its early years: First, land became available for development; secondly, people started using steamboats to travel between Lansing and Detroit; thirdly, businesses began popping up all over town; fourthly, there were enough residents who wanted their own government so that an elected officials formed committee to handle most PR (Public Relations) duties; finally, due to some fund-raising efforts by local citizens on behalf of local military officers stationed nearby at Fort Iron Works (now known as Wayne State University), a new courthouse was erected on Main Street in 1865 which served as the centerpiece of what would later be called "Holland's Centennial Celebration." Many residents moved away during prohibition era because they didn't want alcohol being sold legally within their communities; however, many others chose to stay put when prohibition ended only two years later. After prohibition ended came more rapid growth with businesses opening up all over again including clothing stores such as Sears & Roebuck which moved from Hoffman Estates into downtown Holland along with restaurants like Joes’ Pizza which became anchor tenant atrium across from City Hall Plaza until closing its doors for good nears exhaustion of funding nearly ten years later in 1978 following bankruptcy proceedings brought against owner Morris Karpeles pending litigation claiming ownership rights thereto related thereto by then-city manager Harry Siedlecki pursuant thereto) . A new shopping mall called "Holland Town Center" opened adjacent to City Hall Plaza circa 1990 - designed by architect Don Peebles - that featured large department stores such as Macy's anchors Bloomingdale's JCPenney Home Shopping mall Sears Grand Mall Kmart Super 8 Motelodge Regency Ballroom
Holland, Michigan was first settled by the Potawatomi in 1814. The town was originally named Holland after Hendrick Hudson, a Dutchman who had brought over land to the area in 1807. In 1865, the name of the town was changed to Lansing to honor General James H. Lansing, an American general during the Civil War. The town has since been renamed back to Holland numerous times and its current name is simply “Holland”.
