Holland, Michigan is a small town in the United States, located in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Abraham Lincoln attended local schools here before becoming an accomplished lawyer and politician in Illinois and then US President during both parties’s administrations beginning with Grover Cleveland’s first term (1893-1901). He is buried near his childhood home in Holland Township Cemetery at age 80 years 3 months old next to his wife Mary Todd Lincoln (1863-1945). During World War II much activity took place along Honeysuckle Creek including Shipbuilding yards at Mackinac Island Naval Shipyard; also several airfields were developed here such as Lemont Field on Mackinac Island; Grasbrook Air Force Base on Isle Royale National Park; plus many other factories that produced goods for America’s war effort including Ford Motor Company’s Dearborn Plant on downtown Detroit; UAW Local 775 plant at Chrysler plantsite near Windsor Castle; Armstrong Whitworth Company’s ice cream factory at Cherry Hill;; Can availability last year be lowered? Holland was first settled by Europeans in the 17th century. The community became a part of Michigan in 1827, and was named for Holland, Netherlands. In 1830, the United States acquired Michigan from Great Britain, and Holland became part of the newly created state. The community continued to grow until it reached its peak in the early 20th century. By 1920, however, Plymouth Township had replaced Holland as the most populous municipality in Michigan.
