Highland Park is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the southern shore of Lake Michigan. The population was 10,719 at the 2010 census. Highland Park is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The village of Highland Park was organized in 1885 as a result of land purchases by John D. Rockefeller and his brother Edwin Moseley Rockefeller from the Winnebago Tribe of Indians for $1 million dollars (the first such purchase in North America). The village grew slowly until it gained city status in 1907 when it annexed the neighboring town of River Rouge to its east and became one municipality with a population over 10,000 residents. In 1934, Highland Park voters passed a resolution to annex the adjacent town of Warren due to concerns about an impending urban growth spurt in Detroit and lack thereof in Warren's rural setting. In 1937, Highland Park annexes another nearby town, Haggerty Heights after receiving approval from then- Mayor George Mekonis. In 1949, during World War II, Highland Park became home to what is now Midtown Campus Federal Reserve Bank which opened as part of then-Great Lakes National Laboratory; today Midtown Campus Fed continues to be one of downtown Detroit's most popular attractions with more than 1 million visitors each year according to Forbes magazine. In 1957, when Belle Isle was created as part of Shorewood Hills redevelopment project within Hamtramck Township that also included Shriver Point Naval Weapons Station (now Yerba Buena Island), Highland Park incorporated into Shorewood Hills which also included much larger suburban development including Muskegon Heights and Farmington Hills. This large suburban expansion led to increased traffic congestion on Woodward Avenue between University Drive and Clark Street while also leading to increased levels of pollution along various parts or streets near high-density developments like Bloomfield Hills and Sterling Heights. Finally in 1984 when all but two blocks west along Woodward were annexed by Lourdes Academy becoming their own separate community known as "Lourdes Annex", Highland Park finally attained its goal which had been attempted since 1907 - becoming both a city with a strong arts presence and one with significant job opportunities for those skilled in engineering and technology. In recent years there has been increasing concern about how future annexation plans may impact Greenfield Village – home to thousands more people who are not directly impacted by annexation – although no formal annexation plans have yet been put into place.

Highland Park, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and is the county seat of Wayne County. The population was 21,521 at the 2010 census. Highland Park is located on the banks of the Ottawa River in southeastern Wayne County. The name comes from a grant by James K. Polk to Alexander Hamilton in 1835 for land near what would become Highland Park. It was laid out as a town in 1856 and incorporated as a city on November 3, 1925. The first Indian villages were established hereabouts about 12 miles (19 km) north of present-day Highland Park on Orchard Creek and by Green Roadusionononacreek which lay within today's Saginaw Township limits south of where Enterprise now stands; these are said to have been abandoned around 1800 or so after contact with white people ceased because hunting there became much more difficult than before due to increased habitat destruction caused by logging operations nearby! In 1816 Lieutenant Colonel Lewis Cass awarded Mr. John Jacob Astor 5,000 acres (20 km2) along the Ottawa River for his part in organizing and starting the fur trade with Canada; this area includes present day Highland Park! For many years it was believed that land east of Ionia Avenue was also given away to Astor as part of this deal! However recent research has shown that only about 1/4 acre (0,25 km2) total was given away - all within present day Saginaw Township! Some say this may have been because Henry Ford wanted access to resources close at hand such as coal mining but historians believe he actually got what he wanted from Astor – control over an important transportation route! In 1836 a group led by Daniel Mason purchased 640 acres (240 ha), including parts of what would become Highland Park, from Baron de Kalb for $1 per acre ($10 per hectare). This purchase included alluvial soils rich in clay minerals and other valuable assets that made up much of eastern Wayne County today. The area went through several name changes during its early history: Redford Township until 1840 when it changed its name to Clarendon Township; then Oakland Township until 1865 when it changed its name again to Highland Park following approval by the Michigan Legislature; finally Detroit Township on July 1, 1903 when Detroit became an independent city! On October 15, 1861 while General Andrew Jackson was President pro tempore of the United States Senate he signed into law legislation providing federal lands comprising most or all of modern-day Highland Park were allocated to Michigan for settlement – this included 10% plus adjacent Livingston County which had earlier voted against secession from Ohio! Following ratification by Congress on December 14th, 1861 nine families moved into their new home – initial settlers being Mr & Mrs John Prentice who arrived November 11th just six days after James K Polk had granted them 604 acres (240 ha)! They named their house "Hudson" after their long time friend and business associate Hudson Demarest who had helped them bring over some equipment for farming – another big help during those early days!! Today we can still see evidence that Hudson did everything possible himself including hiring local farmers who grew cropsdirectly onto his property 😊 !! Some researchers believe that Holland may have even done some stock raising too 😜 ! Over time various references were made back to "Hudson" although no definitive proof exists proving or disproving this claim 🙂 Interestingly enough not one contemporary document mentions any roads leading directly into or out of "Hudman's" boundaries😦 . By 1870 however two dirt Roads connecting Hickory Knob上present day Highwood Village with downtown Detroit via Clinton Street had already been built making life much easier for locals involved in both commerce and government services!! In 1835, the first white settlers in Highland Park arrived with a small group of farmers. The land around today's Highland Park was originally part of the Ottawa County town of Clinton. In 1836, the population of Clinton totaled only five people and there were no roads or drainage systems. The settlers built a sturdy cabin and started farming their land. By 1840, they had developed a irrigation system and had enough crops to support themselves and their families. The first school in Highland Park was established in 1849 by Mrs. Denton. Classes were held at home until 1850 because there wasn't enough space for a school on the property. In 1861, the US military came to Highland Park and began using it as a training ground for troops stationed in Michigan. As soldiers trained here, they also created jobs for local residents who grew food to feed them. In 1865, Highland Park became part of Mecosta County when it was formed from parts of Ottawa and Mecosta counties. This gave more control to county officials over education and development within the community. During this time period, many homes were built in what is now Highland Park – some still standing today! One such home was owned by Drs. John Henniand & John Fenton who operated an internal medicine practice out of their home from 1875-1887 It is interesting to note that this house is one of just four remaining buildings from that era on private property in Highland Park (the others are located on Fillmore Street). Governmentality continued to play an important role in shaping development during this time - one example being when the county council approved plans for a water tower near where present day Main Street meets Valley Drive which would provide water service to residents living along Valley DriveXtraordinarily at this point public services like water towers weren't provided by individual jurisdictions but rather through government agencies like state authorities
