Pepper spray has a long and varied history in Highland Park, Michigan. It is believed that the first use of pepper spray as a self-defense tool took place on October 10, 1903, when two policemen were attacked by three men with pepper spray. The attackers were identified as members of the local anarchists group led by Leo Tolstoy. The police used tear gas to disperse the groups and) arrested all three assailants. The first use of pepper spray as a form of law enforcement was also reported in Highland Park on November 6, 1911, when six officers were called to investigate reports of someone fighting with shotguns near the city park. They found one man standing in front of an old post office with a shotgun pointing at himself and four other people who had gathered around him. He had been sprayed with pepper spray and was holding a revolver which he had drawn from his waistband. After arresting the man, the officers discovered that he was not involved in any crime but had been using pepper Spray as part of his demonstration against government tyranny. Over time, more jurisdictions have adopted pepper spray as their official weapon for self-defense or law enforcement purposes. Today, Pepper Spray is often considered "the last great frontier" because it offers an effective way for individuals to protect themselves from violent criminals without having to resort to deadly force

Highland Park is a town in the U.S. state of Michigan and part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area. The population was 16,531 at the 2010 census. It is home to Highland Park High School, which has been recognized as one of the best high schools in Michigan by Forbes magazine and other publications. The first settler in what would become Highland Park was John McLaren who arrived in 1795. He built a cabin on the edge of present-day Highland Park after spending several years travelling through Canada's Upper Peninsula region looking for land to settle. McLaren's cabin became the nucleus around which all later settlements were founded and today still stand, including those that make up Grand Rapids proper: Plymouth, Hollandale, Maycomb Heights and much of Oldtown Center are stone-built cabins from McLaren's time or earlier that survive from various periods between 1805-1885 (the last being built about 1915). Although not all settlers who followed came from Scotland or England, many did so because they found ample agricultural land available along with good hunting opportunities on both sides of the border. By 1814 there were over 20 families living in what would become Highland Park - 10% more than had been reported two years earlier! In 1833 James McKenzie purchased 640 acres (246 hectares) just north of present day Highland Park from John McLaren for $2 per acre ($10 per hectare). This tract now forms part of downtown Grand Rapids and can be seen searching for donated property parcels near Woodward Avenue and North Fifth Street where McKenzie Spur intersects Ionia Road – it was here that he named his new development "Highland Park". In 1840 Reverend John McLaughlin established another Presbyterian church at this site – Stoneybrook United Church – followed by others until 1922 when all but one congregation left for lack of space or money within their original boundaries due to growth within neighboring towns such as West Plains, East Lansing and South Holland Township respectively. The exceptions were First Presbyterian Church (later known as Christian Life Cathedral) located on Saginaw Valley Parkway east side next to Ionia University campus before its demolition/rebuilding during 2006-2007; Methodist Episcopal Church (later known as Hope Lutheran) also located east sidenext to Ionia University campus; Euclid Baptist Church (now defunct) also located east sidenext to Ionia University campus before its demolition/rebuilding during 2006-2007; finally Bethel Bible Chapel relocated nearby Huron Hills Golf Course after being vacated by First Presbyterian Church following its merger into MNVC back then while also serving students at nearby Eastern Michigan University; thus EMC & HCC became two adjacent properties adjacent to each other forming what is currently downtown Grand Rapids' core business district including neighborhoods north/northwest thereof bounded by Woodward Ave., State Capitol Drive NW., Huron Hills Golf Course Rd., MLK Jr Blvd./Ionia Rd., US 31W

Highland Park is a small town in the micropolitan area of Detroit, Michigan. The population was 20,874 at the 2010 census. Highland Park was founded in 1868 by Scotsmen who had settled in what is now Dearborn County. The community became part of Metro Detroit when it was merged with Wayne County in 1997. The town's first post office opened in 1867 and closed in 1875; its first settler, John Macdonald, received a Donation Land Claim for $500 from General James Van Buren on February 15, 1868. In 1870, Highland Park erected its first schoolhouse – the only one constructed until 1907 – and began to attract settlers from nearby cities such as Lansing and Ann Arbor. By 1880, there were over 100 residents living in Highland Park. In response to growing prohibitionism and anti-immigrant sentiment during the late 19th century throughout most of America, Scottish immigrants began arriving to Highland Park starting around 1900 as speakeasies flourished across Michigan. Many Scots-Americans also pioneered new farming techniques that were later adopted by other farmers throughout Michigan and beyond. During World War I (1914–18), many of the region's heavy industry shifted from Canton Township to Flint where it became the wartime home of General Motors Corporation (GMC). Starting out as a small plant producing tires for military use, GMC grew into one of America's largest automotive companies by 1939 with operations stretching all over North America including research centers at Cadillac and Willow Run near Detroit; plants outside of Toronto; and international sites such as Zandvoort on Staten Island and Hamamatsu on Honshu Island in Japan. At its peak during World War II (1939–45), GMC employed more than 60% of Flint's workforce while output soared above 1 million cars per year—more than any other American company except Ford Motor Company (FORD). A number of iconic products associated with GMC – including Cadillac radios (the "Big Three"), Buick Electra sedans/comestibles sport Utility vehicles ([Chevrolet], Pontiac Firebirds), Chevrolet light trucks ([Chrysler]), Caddy convertibles ([Pontiac]), Oldsmobile Cutlass Supremeroughhousing models ([Plymouth]) – reached their peak production values after 1945 before gradually declining through the decades due to changing market demand or technological advancements. However, even today some variants remain popular among enthusiasts: For example, Pontiac G8 GTs are often sold chassis only although available optioned with an entire engine range including V8s or LS engines depending on specifications.. In 1868, a new community was founded in Highland Park by the brothers John and Peter Halsted. The town was named for the highlands of Scotland, where the Halsted family had originated. The town grew quickly, and in 1880 it had a population of 100 people. By 1900, Highland Park had a population of 4,000 people. In 1914, Highland Park became a city.
