Highland Park is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the western edge of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The population was 9,482 at the 2010 census. Highland Park was established in 1871 as a town within Dearborn County and became a city in 1972. It is part of Metro Detroit Area. The area now known as Highland Park was first settled by Native Americans, including the Pemmican people who lived there for centuries before being absorbed into other cultures. In 1851, when Congress passed an act to create Dearborn County, Highland Park was chosen as its county seat. The first settler in what would become Highland Park was Isaac Watts who purchased land east of Battle Creek from the Potawatomi tribe and built a cabin near what is now known as Trinity Road and Battle Creek Lake. In 1871, after difficulties finding land to settle in due to financial constraints, Andrew Johnson recommended that Dearborn County divide into two parts: one for men and one for women – with Highland Park being placed within the women’s portion because it had been designated as an agricultural center by then-Upper Michigan Governor David Dixon during his presidency years earlier. However, this recommendation fell on deaf ears because many men felt that they needed their own piece of land given that they were already contributing so much to society through their work in agriculture while women still didn’t have any say over their lives or relationship with husband or children outside of marriage In 1872, following some heated debate between residents ofDearborn Heights (the eastern half of present-day Highland Park) over whether or not they should become a part of the newly created city or just continue living within Dearborn County under different rules and regulations (due to its small size), voters overwhelmingly chose to become a city rather than let themselves be annexed by Dearborn Heights which would have resulted in their taxes going up 50%. Despite initial plans for only 10 homes/townhouses (and no commercial development), over time more homes were developed along Trinity Road and Battle Creek Lake becoming known collectively as “The Village” since everyone who bought property there started working together towards creating something resembling an outdoor community where they could gather each year around Christmas time for feasts & festivities lasting into early springtime before moving back inside for wintertime activities such as playing checkers & chess outdoors until late summertime before returning outside once again for anotherChristmas party/festivities; This eventually led to The Village having well over 100 dwellings which served both personal & commercial purposes thruout much OF THE YEAR! In 1973 when Albion Township was formed from portions of Huron Township along with most other areas west Of Ann Arbor including HighlandPark proper annexation proceeded without further incident however West Oakland which bordered on Albion Township did not join until later that same year citing zoning concerns about potential business enterprise developing adjacent To public housing projects providing affordable housing also situated adjacent To high school properties owned & operated by township officials making it difficult (& perhaps evenillegal) For businesses owner / operators To expand without fear Of losing access To these vital services? . . Highland Park is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the border of Grand Rapids and Monroe County. The population was 24,857 at the 2010 census, making it the second-most populous city in Monroe County after Metro Detroit. It is also home to Highland Park University, one of Michigan's largest higher education institutions. The area that would become Highland Park was first settled by Native Americans in the 17th century. In 1814, when Oakland County was created from part of Monroe County, Highland Park became part of what would become Oakland Township. A year later, with the opening of Macomb River Bridge over the Macomb River into Wayne County (the future Detroit), Highland Park became part of that county as well and its own municipality for all intents and purposes. In 1847, families from east Dearborn Heights moved to what would eventually be known as Highland Park because they found land there for sale near State Street and Woodward Avenue. By 1851, there were over 100 residents living in what is now Highland Park proper – more than any other township or village in Oakland Township at that time. The town hall and courthouse were both built between 1852 and 1860; until then most municipal business took place at homes or businesses along Midtown Road north of State Street. During this time period there also arose a nascent community spirit thanks to Scots-Irish immigrants who had come to work on new railroads within minutes of each other on Woodward Avenue just west of present-day Arlington Boulevard in downtown Dearborn Heights during those early days beforeowntown Dearborn Heights even existed! They called their new neighborhood "Dundee" after their homeland in Scotland (Highland Parks today sits adjacent to Dundee Circle). By 1870s most people had left for reasons such as poverty or lack thereof – only a few remained until 1906 when an influx of Germans led by Lutheran pastor August Heinrich Fieberhorn brought more refugees into town which transformed HighlanderPark into one large German enclave complete with its own grocery store, brewery/winery complex (containing some world’s earliest commercially produced gassed gas lamps), post office (#2) and schoolhouse (#4). For about 10 years thereafter many residents maintained tight close-knit communal solidarity through religious services conducted every Sunday morning at 9 am inside small parishioners’ homes “outside” due largely to lackof alternative transportation available outside urban areas during this era which included horseback riding & fishing trips afforded access to now abandoned mills located just north & east Of present day Elmhurst Rd & Ionia Rd - these activities providing necessary social & economic sustenance while still allowing open access outside these residences w/o fear or invitation / Encountering anyone not local
