In 1821,1800 settlers arrive from Holland Township (now part of East Lansing) to start a farm known as Dutch Point on what is now Oldroyd Street northeast of downtown Hamtramck. They named the farm after Hendrick Van Rensselaer who had been granted land grants by Governor George Clinton in 1793 for his help with the American Revolutionary War effort while living in New York City. Afterward, he became involved with many aspectsof post-Revolutionary life including helping to found WestPoint College (now Wayne State University) and serving as its first president in 1799-1800 when it was established at Fort Stanwix outside Detroit; he died there about 1800s before his grant could be finalized The first permanent settler arrived around 1800 when Nicholas Biddle came from Pennsylvania along with his family consisting of Nicholas, wife Sarah (baptized Decatur), two sons John (born Apr 21st 1800), Samuel (born Jun 3rd 1800)and Jameson Biddle Jr.(born Sep 12th 1802). He erected a cabin on lot #4 within present day Harrison Township east side Hamtramk village limits about 1/2 mile northwest corner Of Main street & Oldroyd street between creek bed & bend In road just south side Harriss house lots line bisected by old RR tracks
