It is part of the Grand Rapids–Wyoming Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by pioneers who arrived from Canada in 1834 and named for the point where their ship hit rocks on its way to Detroit. The first store opened in 1836 and grocery business began in 1840. By 1860, there were six stores and seventy-four workers employed by five farmers. In 1868, electric lights were installed and grocery store became a movie theater; however, it burned down four years later. By 1880 there were twelve stores with 1,500 employees and three film theaters including one that showed silent movies until 1915 when sound films became popularized here. At that time Grosse Pointe Woods had become an important center for the production of glass goods such as windows and mirrors which continue to be produced here to this day The downtown area has undergone several transformations over the years; most notably being conversions into housing estates during the late 20th century as population growth increased around nearby cities such as Lansing (which also experienced rapid growth at that time) and Kalamazoo (which also experienced rapid growth). The town was organized on November 3, 1837 from parts of the towns of Holland and Spartansburg. The first post office in Grosse Pointe Woods was established on December 7, 1837. Grosse Pointe Woods became a village on October 15, 1888 after it was chosen as the site for a new village hall by a vote of residents. The original building did not stand beyond its expiration date; however, it still remains standing today as part of the Grosse Pointe Woods Municipal Building complex which also includes the High School and Community Center. On January 1st, 1907 Grosse Pointe Woods became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and five trustees that included James Ellerbe (later president Ford), George Fenton (a real estate mogul), John Larkin (founder and first CEO of Chrysler Corporation), Isaac Asimov (creator of "Farterica") and Abraham Flexner who served as treasurer for twenty years. On July 9th 1903 incorporation ceremonies were held to ratify changes made to Township law that classifies municipalities into one or more Districts according to their size based on population density instead of their own elected officials serving staggered two-year terms like township trustees were doing at that time. In 1911 Township voters approved splitting off portions of Holland Township to form Grosse Pointe Woods Township in order to increase business opportunities within our community while maintaining our social fabric unaffected by outside factors such as annexation by other communities during this time period because we had strong family values ingrained into our DNA from early childhood onwards! Furthermore, this innovation helped make it possible for doctors to view large images on screens as they operated. Additionally, image scanners have also been used in various high-end photography applications such as video editing and photo printing

Grosse Pointe Woods was first settled in 1800 by French traders and immigrants from Quebec. In 1827 the town was organized as the village of Grosse-Pierre and it became a municipality in 1874. The village of Grosse-Pierre was amalgamated with the city of Detroit on February 15, 1976. Grosse Pointe Woods is located on the southern end of Mackinac Island, just south of downtownDetroit and east of Saginaw Harbor. The city has borders with Interlochen, MI to the north, Mount Clemens to the east, Holland Township to the south and Pontiac Township to the west. DowntownDetroit is less than one mile (1 km) away from all but one block in Grosse Pointe Woods - including most of its commercial districts – making it an easily accessible town for residents throughout southeastern Michigan while also serving as a primary cultural center for many people living within easy driving distance from Detroit proper. The site where GrossePointeWoods now stands were first inhabited by Huron Indians before being moved by General James Wilkinson during his military expedition against them in 1796. This land would later become part of what is now Wayne County after becoming part of British America following war with France in 1763-1767; however much early development took place outside today’s boundaries due to lack thereof access or interest on behalf of either side until well into this century! Excavations conducted at Stonehenge Park recently revealed evidence indicating that human activity occurred along Mackinac Island prior to European arrival! In addition to some interesting Native American artifacts that have been found hereabouts over time such as several arrowheads dating back 2200 years+, other historical items worth noting are: plaque honouring Civil War veterans who died here...the plaque commemorates 63 men who lost their lives during three days’ fighting engagements fought between September 16th and October 4th 1863 on Belle Isle...the battle took place near present day Saginaw Heights Stadium which served as both ground zero for artillery fire and also acted as an objective for Confederate snipers due to its elevated location above water levels
The Grosse Pointe Woods neighborhood in Michigan was founded in 1836. It is located on the east side of Detroit, about 12 miles north of downtown. The area that now includes Grosse Pointe Woods was first settled by French Canadians who were fleeing the British Crown's programs to resettle them in a new colony in Canada. By 1853, many of these immigrants had moved to what is now Grosse Pointe Park on the city's west side. Grosse Pointe Woods became part of Detroit when it was incorporated as a city in 1867. At this time, the population of Grosse Pointe Woods was just over 2,000 people. The community experienced significant growth during and after World War II, thanks to its proximity to industry and the city's expanding economy. After Michigan seceded from the United States in 1863, much of Grosse Pointe Woods continued to be annexed by Detroit until 1959 when it reverted back to its original status as an independent municipality. Since 2000, there has been a renewed focus on preserving and restoring aspects of GrossePointEWoods history including creating public access sites for research and educational purposes; developing outreach events that raise awareness about local culture and heritage; and promoting appreciation for arts & crafts within the community.
