Grosse Pointe Woods is a small town in Lapeer County, Michigan, United States. The population was 7,846 at the 2010 census. It lies on the shore of Lake St. Clair and is served by the Grosse Pointe Woods School District. The first permanent settler in Grosse Pointe Woods was Dr. John Fenton in 1827. The village of Grosse Pointe was founded in 1873 by Solomon Grundy and others as a resort for wealthy Detroiters who wanted to escape the city's humid summers and noisy nightlife. The name "Grosse Pointe" honors General George Washingtonagged his army through Holland during the American Revolutionary War and purchased land here from the local Potawatomi tribe in 1796. A military fortification known as Fort Dearborn was built here in 1814 to protect nearby Fort Wayne, which became an important commercial center after Detroit emerged as a major metropolitan area. In 1901, Englishman Charles Kingsbury donated 5,000 acres (20 km2) of land west of downtown to create what is now Grosse Pointe Woods Village; this parcel included most of what is today Grosse Pointe Woods Township and portions of Clinton Township east of Glendale Road. In 1927, George Wirths donated 3,500 acres (1 km2) southwest of downtown to form Grosse Pointe Park; this parcel included much of what is now Midtown Village and parts of GrossePointe Woods Township north and east of Woodward Avenue. By 1940, all but 1/4th (of 1 km2) of present-day GrossePointeWoods had been annexed by neighboring Clinton Township; however, annexation proceedings were completed within two years because then-mayor Harry Jaffe felt that it would not be possible for him to resist requests from residents who desired more open space within their township limits while still maintaining its separate government structure). In 1951 when Michigan joined the United States as a new country following World War II, many people who had fled Japan decided to move back into areas they had vacated during wartime: among these were many veterans returning home with families or children who could no longer afford to leave their homes behind during those difficult times economy-wise). As part as partaking in postwar reconstruction efforts following Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings there seemed an overriding need for new housing developments adjacent to hospitals and other large employment centers – so much so that President Truman issued Executive Order 9646 calling for consideration of creating giant markets called "motor cities". After months deliberation undersecretary Forrestal submitted a report recommending that Government lands beyond Flint Hills be used for such purposes; this recommendation led eventually to enactment on November 15, 1946 Of Public Law 95-417 entitled "National Register OF Historic Places FOR THE COUNTY OF LAPEER", which designated GrossePointEWoods as one hundred percent complete with listings dating back to 1800 AD! The original intent behind establishing the National Register has long since faded away – although some current developers believe that designation may have contributed towards bringing development closer at hand – but it does serve as another reminder about how easily vanished cultures can be brought back into visibility through designation on some dusty old parchment paper! Today's population size stands at around 10K residents spread over 6 villages including MidtownVillage & surrounding neighborhoods located just minutes walk away from largest shopping mall/residence complex & schools including Bishop International HS 2 miles south across street from NRHP listed building ex.. post office also

Grosse Pointe Woods is a Census-designated place in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The name originates from "grosse" (large) and "pointe" (a point), which together referred to a bluff overlooking the river. Grosse Pointe Woods was platted in 1837 by John Sutherlin and others as an agricultural township on land that now includes much of downtown Wayne County. In 1881, when Cadillac was founded and the town began to grow rapidly, Grosse Pointe Woods became its first incorporated municipality with a population of over 100 people. A post office was established here in 1892; the present one opened in 1907. In 1954, Grosse Pointe Woods annexed parts of Dearborn Heights to form a new city; it ceased to be separate municipalities altogether in 1973 when Dearborn Heights became an official city. The community has experienced many changes throughout its history: during World War II it served as an airfield for troop training operations over Lake Erie; during and after the war it underwent rapid growth as a result of automotive manufacturing; since then it has been steadily declining in population due to move-outs and other factors; however, recent annexation by Dearborn Heights has reversed this trend somewhat. Today Grosse Pointe Woods is still considered an affluent suburbia with high levels of education and employment opportunities for its residents - although gentrification is beginning to take hold as more families move into adjacent neighborhoods near downtown Detroit
The Grosse Pointe Woods community was founded in 1847 as a small farming village on the western side of Detroit. By 1870, it had grown to include a commercial district and five churches. By the early 1920s, the community had become an important transportation hub for the surrounding area. In 1916, Grosse Pointe Woods became a city and was renamed after the then-president of Cadillac Motors, Harry Cadmium Wright. The population of Grosse Pointe Woods grew rapidly during World War II, with many residents serving in the military or working in industries such as munitions production. After Detroit's destruction in 1945, Grosse Pointe Woods experienced rapid growth as a result of becoming one of the few American cities to remain predominantly white after wartime black flight. The community reached its heyday during the late 1950s and 1960s when crime rates plummeted and social services were available online or by phone. However, recent economic challenges have caused increasing division among residents and Councilmember Gayle King has worked to address these issues.
