The history of firearms in Grosse Pointe Park is a long andxample of the importance of arms in society. Firearms were first used in this area back in 1847 when a group of men from Michigan arrived on the island of Grand Marais to find land for themselves. They brought with them their firearms, which they named “shotguns” after their favorite rifle, theShotgun The first gun target was set up on what is now the corner of Third and Dearborn Streets. It consisted of three simple posts, each about 20 feet long and 10 feet wide. This location served as a training ground for local militia troops as well as being used by hunters to practice shooting at game. In 1855, Grosse Pointe Park became part of Detroit and began to be developed as a city. Because there was no readily available land in Grosse Pointe Park, gun enthusiasts started buying and creating small ranges hereabouts. In 1865, John A. Ball (later known as John Jagger) opened his ballistics laboratory on Dearborn Street northwest of Third Avenue in what is now the Palmer Building (now home to Wayne State University).Ball played an important role in developing modern firearms techniques and helped popularize hunting rifles among American citizens. He also donated funds towards building two new rifle ranges – one near Masonic Temple on Gratiot Avenue east of First Street, and another near The Palace Theatre off Woodward Avenue northwest of Second Street – both within pistol range distance for residents living nearby (and still open today). In 1898, Grosse Pointe Park became part of Washtenaw County during statehood and various changes occurred thereafter including the annexation of much smaller communities like South Bend (then known as St Joseph) into Grosse Pointe Park proper while still keeping its own identity/governmental structure that included its own sheriff department; fire Marshal service; public works department; park commissioners; school superintendent etc… By 1900-1901 all these organizations had been consolidated under one roof under the name “Grosse Pointe Parks Board” et al.. This board also established rules that governed exactly how guns could be discharged within park boundaries without getting arrested or having your property seized: muzzleloading pistols could only be fired at targets located 1 mile away from any populated areas while revolvers were limited to use at firing ranges 3 miles from any inhabited area while shotguns could only be shot at targets located 5 miles away from any populated areas – even if it was raining! It wasn’t until 1907 when the state Legislature passed an act putting all firearm activity within city limits under exclusive regulation by either city or county police forces with no right whatsoever to possess or discharge weapons without prior written consent from parks board members/officers! Even then you couldn’t lawfully buy or possess ANY type OF firearm without obtaining written permission FROM THE PARK BOARD FIRST!(!!!) To this day anyone who wants to purchase or possess a handgun must go through channels such as going through an NRA Agent/Dealer before doing so because there are presently NO GUN OWNERSHIP REGISTRATIONS OUTSIDE OF THE CITY LIMITS OF GEORGETOWN MICHIGAN!!) There have been many big changes over time with regards to firearms possession within Grosse Pointe Park since 1907 including but not limited to: - Arsenals proliferation - Although handguns remain qualitatively king due largely due to laws prohibiting openly carrying them outside urban areas today, muzzleloader rifles continue enjoy heavy popularity due primarilyto their accuracy & simplicity compared TO revolvers which can require Years Of proficiency & experience just TO SAFE SHOOTING Ranges where YOU ARE LANDED UPON THEM WITHIN THEIR CRITICAL ZONE!) - Gun Ownership registrations - Currently there are NO GUN OWNERSHIP REGISTRATIONS OUTSIDE OF THE CITY LIMITS OF GEORGETOWN MICHIGAN!!)

The name "Grosse Pointe" comes from a point at which the Rouge River empties into Lake Huron south of Killeen Street in today's eastern suburbs of Detroit. A fort was built by French colonists at this point in 1795; French traders named it Fort de la Grosse Pointe (Fort Grande).[1] In 1804-5, American General George Washington's army used Guantanamo Bay as its winter quarters before crossing the Delaware River into Pennsylvania for campaign season.[2] General James Wilkinson's forces entered Canada through what are now downtown Detroit and Grand Rapids on December 10, 1805 during his march from Montreal to Yorktown as part of Operation Long Bridge (the crossing of the Great Lakes). The first permanent white settler in what is now Grosse Pointe Park was Nicholas Seifert who arrived in 1800 along with 200 others from Holland along with their families aboard HMS 'Venerable' after sailing around Cape Horn under Captain Cook's second voyage.[3] The first school open in what is now Grosse Pointe Park was taught by Reverend Rufus Kingman on May 13th, 1814 from an old lumber mill near present day Roscommon Road/Plymouth Road intersection where he also lived until his death on October 9th that year at age 78 years old.[4][5][6] There were few residents living outside urban areas until about 1870 when there began to be construction of tracks connecting Chicago with points northward includingDetroit via Pere Marquette[7]. By 1880 there were more than 1,600 people living within one mile (2 km) of either downtown or suburban railroads serving as workers - compared to 100 people within one mile (2 km) service industries such as brewing and iron production had attracted settlers but not yet produced significant numbers of businesses or jobs due to lack thereof centralized transportation infrastructure then available which still exists today
