That same year, General Motors began construction of its new factory at Mack Avenue and Grand River Avenue with initial production taking place at Ford's old Rouge Factory before moving into their own plant across from Mack Avenue in 1915.Like most American cities during this period automotive production declined due to World War I; however starting fresh after hostilities ended GM resumed rapid expansion with plants opening up all over America including one near Pontiac Michigan by 1922! In 1927 Cadillac made their first America trip and were met with great interest from motorists throughout Midwest; thus Cadillac decided it would be more beneficial to operate plants out of Canada where labor costs were lower (and infrastructure not yet developed). Canadian factories produced models until 1951 when US industry returned to dominance thanks largely to Henry Ford's expanding manufacturing empire following World War II! Today GM still maintains a small number of operations globally while Ford focuses mainly on trucks and self-driving vehicles! Grosse Pointe Park experienced rapid growth following World War II as many middle class baby boomers moved there en masse seeking technology advancements such as television sets which had just been invented! By 1955 there were over 1 million people living within its boundaries making it one of Michigan's fastest growing cities! And although today high school students may joke about getting high or using drugs here during those heady days pre-recession these activities are very much against law enforcement policy!!! The first post office at Grosse Pointe Park opened in 1847.[4] A large cotton gin built by George Stephenson and others helped shape Detroit's early economy[5]. Manufacturing became an important sector of the city's economy with mills built along riverfronts such as Gratiot and Mackinac Street. The decline of manufacturing during World War II led to a loss in jobs for thousands of workers; however, many neighborhoods have experienced revitalization thanks to entrepreneurship and investment from new residents and businesses. In 2003, Grosse Pointe Parks merged with Dearborn Heights to form one municipality with a population over 25,000 people.
