Grosse Pointe Park was founded on April 16, 1892 by Henry Ford and his wife Maryanne Dearborn. The city's first mayor was John Parson. A second group arrived about 1800AD from Ottawa River region in Canada[3], probably through contact with the Huron people living along the upper St Clair River[4]. The Potawatomi also inhabited this area before they were pushed out by European settlers in 1795-97 according to one source[5]. By 1800AD there were more than 250 Potawatomi villages spread throughout much of central and northern Michigan[6], most located near or around Sault Ste Marie (a port on Lake Huron) where trade goods such as furs and knives crossed over with indigenous peoples from northcentral Ontario downriver into lower Michigan[7]. Henry Ford began developing his original car company in Dearborn Heights adjacent to Sault Ste Marie around 1875,[8] soon after moving from his previous work at the Toledo machine shop where he had worked until 1869.[9][10] Ford started making cars at his Dearborn Heights garage starting with a horse-drawn carriage called the "Patent Carriage".[11] His first car was made using wood frames covered with cloth or leather and powered by a team of horses pulling a cart or wagon which reached speeds up to 30 miles per hour during those days.[12][13] In 1876 Ford introduced his "Fords" series which featured open body designs that would become increasingly popular among American drivers during that period; these cars used small gasoline engines operating either electric power or petrol engines depending upon their make and model(s).[14][15] In 1881 Henry Ford purchased land adjoining Sault Ste Marie for $1 million dollars creating what would eventually be known as Grosse Pointe Park Township (now Macomb Township).[16][17]:2Later that year he donated another acreage on Grand Blanc Road east of Van Dyke Avenue to create Northfield Gardens which opened as the first public parkland in America within three years following incorporation by Detroit Municipal Corporation on July 1st,1882 with 1 square mile (0.40 km²) reserve providing enough open space for 450 people including 100 dogs vs 2 square miles (0.80 km²) available at present day Highland Park Reserve inside Downtown Detroit limits only minutes after incorporation)[18]:2Northfield Gardens remains today one ofMacomb County's largest undeveloped areas still containing nearly 350 acres (120 ha)[19]:1In 1886 George Eastman established Eastman Kodak Company on paper products manufacturing site just south east of today's intersection I-696/I-375 between Evanston Road/I-75 exit #2 & Heights Boulevard/I-275 entrance #3 off Woodward Avenue adjacent to Appleton Dam while future GM plant sat idle due then largely agricultural production surrounding it - Photo courtesy: Google Maps). Grosse Pointe Park is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 27,821 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Wayne County by population and second-largest city by area. Grosse Pointe Park is home to the University of Michigan and several other large institutions of higher education. The first permanent settler in Grosse Pointe Park was John Davenport, who arrived on February 17, 1813. Davenport's land included what is now the eastern edge of Grosse Pointe Park. By 1825, most of present-day Grosse Pointe Park had been developed as a result of land sales and purchases from Native Americans. The first European settler to live in what are today Grosse Pointe Park was Nicholas Canfield, who arrived on July 10, 1834. Canfield's land included much of what is now east side of downtown Grosse Pointe Park as well as some areas near Greenfield Township Hospital and Little Italy Cemetery today. In 1847, Detroit Mayor Joby Warrick leased 4 acres (1 km²) west of Grand Boulevard () to Peter Krieger for use as a public square or park known then as "Canal Square." Krieger donated this property to Detroit for use as a public square on April 6, 1850; it became known thereafter as "Grosvenor Square." In 1865–1866,[2] Henry Ford used part of Canal Square for his engine testing ground before moving operations to Dearborn Avenue (). The final official dedication took place on October 12th 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson gave an address at Ford's factory recognizing its contributions to American industry during World War II (). On November 15th 1912,[3] the City Council voted 7-0[4] to annex parts of Dearborn Heights which were then within Troy Township (now part of Warren). This annexation created what are today northwest side streets and avenues in present-day GrossePointe Park - including State Street (), Palmer Road (), McNichols Road (), Harper Road (), Euclid Avenue () - along with present day Midtown Drive (). A total area annexation cost $515 ($ million dollars at current prices*) - making it one of the most expensive municipal incorporations in U.S history. At that time there were only six cities in Wayne County with populations over 25 thousand residents: Detroit (30 thousand), Flint (25 thousand), Oakley (20 thousand), Highland Heights (15 thousand), Southgate (10 thousand) and Troy (7500).[5][6][7][8][9] The area annexed by GrossePointePark includes much that still falls within Troy Township but also includes more recent developments such as Greenfield Township Hospital and Little Italy Cemetery located adjacent to state street/downtown while Midtown Drive forms the southern border

The Grosse Pointe Park neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan was first developed in the early 1800s. It was part of the city of Detroit until it became a township in 1824. The area around present-day Grosse Pointe Park was originally part of what is now Dearborn Heights. In 1853, the township moved to its current location and annexed the adjacent village of Highland Park. The annexation created an enclave within Grosse Pointe Park that served as its own municipality until 1898 when it merged withDearborn Heights to form the City of Detroit.
