Businesses such as Jardine & Hastings began offering services such as water filtration and light fixtures to residents soon after becoming part of Detroit proper. During World War I,GrossePointepark played host to several thousand troops stationed here before they were redeployed back to Europe later that year. After the war ended, many soldiers returninGrossePointeparkand begun fresh construction projects which continued through the 1920s and 1930s when numerous high-rise apartment buildings were erected hereaboutsincludingMacdonald Tower (now known as One Sixty Fifth) which opened in 1925). During this time period also came aboutgrosseland golf course which opened its gates for play in 1929; among other things this helped spur development withinGrossePointepark around this same time period including both commercial strips as well as residential areas today known collectivelyas Midtown Village .
