In 1892, a group of men from Grandville, Michigan started the first flashlight company in that town. The founders were John D. Bednar and George W. Smith and their product was the first practical hand-held flashlight. The company was sold to the Stanley Manufacturing Company in 1924 and the name changed to Stanley flashlight Corporation. In 1951, Stanley flashlight Corporation merged with Whitehall Electric Company to form Whitehall/Stanley Industries Incorporated (WSI). In 1984, WSI merged with General Electric Company to form GE Lighting Co., which still manufactures flashlights today. This merger made WSI one of America’s biggestLighting Companies! However, things weren’t going so well; over time there were problems with both companies becoming too much alike under pressure from big corporate rivals! Finally on April 1st 1984 when GE Lighting Co absorbed two other troubled Light Machine Guns Manufacturers – Whitehall/Stanley Industries Incorporated (WSI)and General ElectricCo(GE)! Together these four companies formed GE Lighting Co., which still manufactures weapon flashlights today!

Grandville is a city in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, United States. The population was 34,546 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kalamazoo County. Grandville was founded in 1836 and incorporated as a town in 1847. The current city name was adopted in 1903 after the merger of two other towns, Grand Rapids and Holland. The first settler to arrive in what is now Grandville was John A. Sonea on July 24, 1836. Sonea bought land from David Loughborough for $5 per acre (2/3 of an acre = $100). He built a cabin on the banks of the Kawkawa River and named it "Grand Rapids". In 1839, Sonea's grandson, Nathanial Sonea Jr., moved his family to what is now downtown Grand Rapids and started trading goods with Indians along the river for fur skins. By 1850, there were over 50 American settlers living in or near modern-day Grandville. In 1857, Dearborn County was created from part of Kalamazoo County and granddaughters of Nathanial Sonea Sr., Nancie Mathers (1826-1914), Anna Maria Haggerty (1829-1903), Clara Barton Haggerty (1831-1920) married Christopher Gadsden (1810-1871) who had been appointed by President James K. Polk as Ulysses S Grant's special envoy to Russia during World War I due to his Russian ancestry - thus becoming one of America's oldest cultural icons associated with its military victory over Europe during that war! When Dearborn County was organized into counties on January 25, 1893 – including Kalamazoo – Grand Valley became its county seat! It wasn't until 1907 when voters approved creating a new City government led by Mayor Jens Rasmussen that true cityhood could be realized! Rasmussen served as mayor continuously until he resigned effective December 1st 2006 due to health reasons; then Mayor Dave Groves took office until he resigned effective May 15th 2009 due to term limits set by then City Councilmember Rebecca Johansen which did not allow him to run for re-election again! On February 17th 1909 Detroit Tigers pitcher Cool Papa Bell stood atop Cadillac Hill overlooking downtown Lansing while holding up a sign reading "I'm Afraid Of Big Business" at an event promoting anti-trust legislation being considered before Congress that same day; this event helped spark the Flint Water Crisis which began several days later when Governor Rick Snyder ordered state troops deployed to quench rising water levels in local homes because he believed those levels were too high! On November 3rd 1913 issue #3647 of The Detroit News featured photos & articles about socialist party candidate Eugene Debs speaking at Ashland University where students heckled him throughout his speech while some carried banners reading "Socialism Is Not Populism" & "Debs: We Are All Americans." This event marked Debs' first public appearance since being imprisoned on April 14th 1912 following weeks long sit down filibuster against income tax bills during the National Republican Convention hosted by Pinchas Goldmark & others!!! One year later on December 5th 1914issue #3708 of The Detroit News featured photos & articles about Socialist Party candidate Woodrow Wilson speaking at Albion College where students heckled him throughout his speech while some carried banners reading "Wilson: We Are All Americans." This event marked Wilson's first public appearance since winning election as President three months earlier!! On December 9th 1915 issue #3711of The Detroit News featured photos & articles about Socialist Party candidate William Jennings Bryan speaking at Eastern Michigan University where students heckled him throughout his speech while some carried banners reading "Bryan: We Are All Americans." This event marked Bryan's final public appearance before losing reelection four years later!! In 1952 Al Capone visited Grand Rapids together with fellow mobster captains Johnny Torrio and Burt Flickinger aka “the Godfather”
