In 1946, Grand Rapids became the only city in Michigan to be served by two telephone companies: Western Michigan Telephone Company (WMT) serving downtown while Lansing Phone Company (Lansing Phone Company) service ran from east side streets southward to City Hall west side streets with an extra line running northward from Union Station (now Comstock Park Stadium). WMT discontinued operations in 1957 after being bought out by Rogers Communications company which kept WMT name but moved all phone lines into their own building at 222 State Street becoming part of Downtown/Downtown Mall complex also known as "The Factory". Lansing PhoneCompany continued operations until 1974 when they merged with Detroit Bell Telephone Company forming Metro Television Corporation which still operates today as Rogers Communications company subsidiary called "Metro TV"
