However, still under Hennepin's jurisdiction were two other townships: Van Dyke and Clinton Township which formed Cassia Township in 1827 as a result of an Act passed by the Legislature during that year; Lansing later became a separate town within Cassia Township. The early years were not easy for either side; with no silver mines in sight and no rivers to bring goods down to market, life was tough for both settlers and Native Americans who lived nearby. But with hard work and determination those days are long gone—thanks largely to generations of immigrants who have come since then to make their mark on this community."
